| 23.03.2007 :: Jammed with Frank, Rory and CJ in our NW space (has been undergoing renovations since early 2006) - first time in ages - and as usual laid down some tasty tracks - also had some homebrewed hooch, that tasted (and smelled) like nice tequila - good times! - might post a video clip too. Notable covers from this session :: Cocaine [Eric Clapton] and Just Got Back From Baby's [ZZTOP] :: timelapse sequence 1 :: timelapse sequence 2 :: |
Also check out Fedirko's side project :: Inversely Proportional - there are a few sound clips posted on his myspace space band page :: and look at his amazing photography on his own domain and specifically the music-related material Cam was in a side-project named Atlas Stucco out in Toronto - moved back to the West Coast March, 2008 Gallery of Frank checking out a vintage Gibson SG at The Guitar Connection :: May 4, 2007 :: posted 12.12.2007 Jam Session went as planned : Dec 15, 2007 : we wrote two great new tunes (one called Flying Upside Down - which Keven wrote Dec 11) and worked on a few cover tunes (w/vocals)... : got two new SM57 mic's, and tried some new recording techniques. Jan 11, 2008 session - re-worked a few covers (from Dec), and worked on a few songs Keven wrote Jan 8/9 - then made up a few new ones on the spot - quite a successful session. Jan 26, 2008 session - Tried out some lyrics that Frank penned for a tune that Keven had called "Dark Themed Stroll" - which we've titled "What's Happenin' To You", which shows a lot of promise, and it pretty fun to play - re-worked a few covers, and then made up a few new ones on the spot - another a successful session - nice catchy new tune before we had to break the session called "Quit Ur Lookin'". Feb 02, 2008 session - re-worked "What's Happenin' To You", tried a couple different treatments to the Louisiana Fog cover, then made up a catchy new tune before we had to break the session - 'nother good session. Mar 02, 2008 session - worked on some original songs w/vocals, and finished off with a new Fedirko riff original. March 07, 2008 session - re-worked "What's Happenin' To You", tried a couple versions of the new Fedirko riff original - had a blast. Posted a series of album cover ideas 10.03.2008 : changed logo at the top of this page too March 16, 2008 session - 3 sessions - 3rd session for some reason is only recorded in mono - but a brilliant new gritty tune called "Down Down Down" came out of that one which clocks in at just under 10min. April 11, 2008 session - 2 sessions. April 12, 2008 session - 1 session. April 25, 2008 session - 2 sessions (haven't made an edit for the band yet). May 16, 2008 session - more new song ideas presented, new riffs came out, a couple untitled jams, and notable tracks include :: "Lost", "Wanna Make It With Chu", "What's Happening To You", a new track called "Can't Stop The Rain", a re-working of "Run With It", and ended the night with "Folsom Prison Blues". May 24, 2008 session - shorter jam, new vocal track called "Jenny", setup new rack mount gear, and a second monitor to check recording levels easier. Aug 15, 2008 session - after a long hiatus - Keven's been writing new tunes tho like a maniac since June, with his Gibson Les Paul Custom replica (Red/orange burst Mann) - nice jam, worked surprisingly well since so much time off, the warm-up tune was good even. Setup the room again, no recording this time around could be made - as we couldn't get a make-shift system running. Did what we feel, will be the next James Bond signature tune - a bit of a different take on Keven's original called "Blue Spy" he wrote July 17th, 2008 - shame it was not layed down on tape - Frank "don't forget that solo idea!" Aug 22, 2008 session - recorded it on an old ProTools system - 24bit 2-track, couldn't export it [might have found how to tweak it - finally exported the session files out on one of my home ProTools systems 05.09.2008] - some yummy new songs were put down, and a bit ended up getting nixed (using this system live for the first time) c'est la vie ... Sept 6, 2008 session - recorded again on an old ProTools system - but in 16bit 2-track this time ... got in a couple new tunes, and some tasty versions of a number of our standards like "Happening to You", "Hurtful" and "'Chu" - didn't bring my memory card reader, so and edit will have to wait. Sept 13, 2008 Frank / Keven meeting and microphone jaunt down to Axe Music - good times - picked up another pair of Shure SM57's and a pair of SM58's for proper vocal reproduction. Sept 25, 2008 Jam planned - did it happen? Oct 25, 2008 Jam - tried to record multi-track on a PC-tower, but the audio files came out all weird - shame, as there was some tasty stuff played that evening. Nov 2, 2008 Jam - recorded in 7-track - bought a used G4/1.5MHz mac-mini (circa 2005 model) for recording, and we captured the set on DV tape (just over one hour of DV footage), and a similar length in 7-track - thought I might have some speed issues with the internal drive, but did not have a single snag all evening. Rory also picked up a pawn shop special (Laney 30W amp?) for his vocals - need to get an extra small mic stand, plus proper stands for the microphone amps now. Nov 7, 2008 Jam - recorded in 7-track - recorded a bunch of it on DV tape, but different camera angles - kind of made Frank and Rory a bit self conscious, so I think I just ended up painting it at myself for the remainder of the set - odd session, pretty different renditions of the tunes, and this brought up tensions in direction - have not output a stereo dub, as we could not come up with a mix [at the end of the night] that accurately translated the 7-track sound to the "room feel" - so I decided to look into some proper reference speakers to mix-down the sessions at my home studio [still pending research]. Nov 22, 2008 Jam - recorded in 7-track - recorded only a bit of the end of the first hour on DV tape (forgot to set it up for the remainder, mostly because it seemed we wouldn't even do a second set), returned the camera to the far back corner again. Nice session, some lower key renditions of the tunes in the second set (since it was so late). Tried Keven's new tune called Rumble Train, and a new darker/low-key blues jam which came out pretty tasty! Gave the members a graphic version of 02.11.2008 (still un-mixed) with named tracks (CD-TEXT) - as I worked out a way to name segments in GB4 this past week, which will help in migrating tunes to mix-able versions easier in the future. Dec 6, 2008 Jam - recorded in 7-track - recorded on two DV tapes - recorded over two hours of 7-track footage. Cool session, some faster renditions of a couple tunes. Tried two of Keven's tunes that were created on a Tokai Tele (at the Guitar Connection), recreated on Frank's Tele and given a rendition, one or two Frank riff originals - and a brand new "Kev, give us a rhythm" things to round out the evening... Keven needed to run off early to cover the Jon Gant / The Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir at the Marquee Room (which turned out awesome) Feb 7, 2009 Jam - recorded in 7-track - recorded on 1.5 DV tapes - recorded 125 mins of 7-track footage. Great session, a few new off the cuff jam ideas that we ran with, and Frank and Keven worked out a new idea that Keven came up with on his recent photoshoot excursion to Vancouver, BC (rented a Gibson SG for the stint). Tried out the new Leonard Cohen cover "Everybody Knows" and that was awesome - Frank and Rory jammed without Keven and ironed out that tune last week (no recordings). Feb 13, 2009 Jam - recorded in 7-track (but only in 16-bit mode by mistake), will settle on the mac-mini next time, and leave it permanently setup - recorded on 1.5 DV tapes (pointed at Keven, didn't bring the tripod this time) - recorded ? mins of 7-track footage - tried out an eMac G4/1.25GHz setup, which wasn't quite up to the task - it choked once due to the disk being too slow [or so it said]. Great session, did a new Tom Petty track - which has a lot of promise, and one or two off the cuff jam ideas that we ran with. Did a few renditions of Keven's new tune (with Bass), and Wanna Make it with Chu with no bass for the first segment. Frank got a new overdrive peddle (made by BBL) and gave that a whirl. We had some vocal mic feedback issues for a bit, which was a drag - didn't make on-off recordings this time. Feb 20, 2009 Jam - recorded in 7-track (back to the mac-mini, but still not quite permanent) - recorded on 1.5 DV tapes (pointed at Keven, didn't bring the tripod this time - another friday) - recorded ? mins of 7-track footage. Good session, did the Tom Petty track off the top, and revisited it again near the end - handed out two discs to Frank/Rory at the end of the session. Feb 27, 2009 Jam - update this Mar 28, 2009 Jam - recorded in 7-track (setup the mini permanent now) - recorded on 1.5 DV tapes (pointed at Keven, no tripod this time) - recorded about 3 hours of 7-track footage. Great session - lots of brand new spur of the moment tunes - handed out three discs to Frank/Rory at the end of the session. The new macros eased recordings quite a bit, and using the built in burn function was pretty handy [but stupid, that you can't burn more than one copy, so it has to go through a complete mix down of all that footage for every output] :: Rory's last jam (bowed out mid June, 2009) Apr 06, 2009 put together a set of speaker stands at my home studio, so I'll give one of the sessions a test mix May 17, 2009 Jam - recorded in 6-track (dual mics on Franks amp - since Rory couldn't make it) - no DV - recorded about 1.5 hours of 6-track footage. Great session - new ideas, some fleshed out that Keven came up with in the past day or two - handed out 2 discs to Frank at the end of the session. Keven didn't seem to have his Les Paul, so used the vintage Tele for a few tunes, then used Frank's Les Paul Standard. Started off the evening with a bunch of Corona's and then got into Margaritaville. Good times. :: (and then there were two again) Sept 6, 2009 Jam - recorded in 6-track (single mic on Franks amp) - no DV - recorded about 1.25 hours of 6-track footage. Great session - new ideas - handed out 2 discs to Frank at the end of the session. Keven was coerced into singing some backup vocals, which sounded better than expected :: also recorded most of the session on Kevens' new Zoom H2 recorder in 4-track, placed stage left a bit of the Marshall amp, until it ran out of card space, so it caught a lot more of the banter between takes and hopefully some tasty little riffs here and there :: great versions of "Wanna Make It With Chu" in particular |
