Irfanview is a great (shareware) graphics viewer. It loads quickly and has a number of handy features.

Open Office is an open source suite of office tools. The tools include word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing and database applications.

Google Earth uses satellite imagery, maps, terrain and 3D buildings to put the world at your fingertips. (Program works on Windows 2000, XP and Vista)

I prefer the Netscape browser to the Internet Explorer, but I do have both on my computer. If you haven't checked out Netscape you might want to.
