*PARTICIPATION BY ALL MEMBERS IS REQUIRED*
The sense of community and belonging that is created from these
events - and our regular general meetings - is essential for living
in a growing cosmopolitan city like Vancouver.
Our little village - as we like to think of it - has developed committees
to volunteer with to suit all interest. As participation is required
in the Co-op there are many committees to choose from such as Buildings,
Grounds, Social, Finance, Board of Directors Membership, Newsletter
and Pool, to name a few.
Volunteering on these committees has enhanced many members lives
and has required people to meet and know their neighbours and thereby
accomplish a safe and secure living environment.
What the Members have to say:
We have made many new friends here, and our children can play and
enjoy a safe environment.
The location and views are incredible and the meetings and occasional
social events make me take an active part in my community.
Living at Killarney Gardens Co-op is like living in a small village
inside a large city, I have hundreds of close neighbours that I
can borrow a cup of sugar from or drop in for a cup of coffee.
Living here has change the way I think of time there is the normal
60-second minute and the normal 60-minute hour. Then there is the
co-op "minute and the co-op hour" which is normally all afternoon.
I am just going out for a minute and then I meet this person and
then that person and before I know it I have been out for a few
hours having a pleasant time with my neighbours
By participating in the running of the co-op I feel that I am contributing
to my community and helping make sure I have a safe and comfortable
place to live.
A strong community
Our housing Co-op offers the safety and the security of a small
village living in the middle of a large city.
It provides opportunities to meet with your neighbours.
You and your neighbours share control of the co-op.
Children are welcome.
The members represent a variety of ages, incomes, languages, experiences
and skills, living together and all contributing to the management
of their own community.
Participation:
All members are expected to participate to help in the running of
the co-op. As well as joining a committee or taking on a task. All
members must attend General Meetings.
All decisions regarding the running of the co-op are made at the
General Meetings and all members have a vote and the right to speak
at least once on any motion or subject bought up at a General Meeting.
