Boating ---------Starts January 12 , 2009

This course runs once a week for 13 or 14 evenings. Most materials are included. Instruction is given on charts, plotting,
navigation, compass, buoys, beacons, knots, safety and much more. This course will qualify you to obtain the Canadian Coast
Guard’s Pleasure Craft Operator Card. Successful completion of this course will qualify you for membership in CPS, and the
eligibility to take more advanced courses.

This is an abbreviated version of the Basic Boating Course. Held over three evenings, this course will qualify you for a Canadian
Coast Guard Pleasure Craft Opertor Card. This course is open to the public, and contains no plotting or chart work. The
successful completion of this course will not qualify you for membership in CPS; however, you may wish to consider taking the
Basic Boating course also.

Marine Radio Course (VHF) -------Starts February 26 , 2009

In three evenings you’ll learn how to use your VHF radio properly. This course includes the exam that will give you the license
required to operate a VHF radio legally and is good for life. This is a comprehensive theoretical and simulated practical course
culminating in the Communications Canada restricted (VHF) exam.

Electronic Charting -------Starts January 15 , 2009

This course takes over where Navigating with GPS leaves off, with the more advanced features of electronic charting, how they
were developed, their advantages and disadvantages, and how to use them in a practical manner.
Get the latest information about connecting your GPS to a laptop, desktop, PDA or tablet computer, and the use of navigational
programs for computers. You get practical knowledge by using an electronic charting program that is included on the
accompanying CD with over 200 electronic charts.

Radar -------Starts November 20 , 2008

Three Thursday Evenings, 1900 - 2200
This course covers the different types of RADAR equipment, including their capabilities and limitations. Understand the available
features and how they apply to your needs. Learn to navigate using RADAR and to determine where you are. Course materials
include the RADAR for Pleasurecraft text book, and a CD (PC only) contaning a RADAR simulaor so that you may practice many
of RADAR's features.
