Joan's Roma

 Joan's Roma

This variety was developed on Kirby Road Farm.

In 2002, we planted some Green Zebra tomatoes and one plant provided red roma-shaped tomatoes which we found tastier and juicier than any romawe had ever tried...so Joan kept some seed from that plant.  Every year we collect seeds from the most successful plants and we have found that the skin is usually somewhat striped and the colour of the flesh varies from bright red to shades of purple and orange.  Joan's Roma have become very popular with those who want a juicy, tasty, large roma but do not care if they come in interesting shapes and colours.  The very tall plant has long, droopy leaves, and needs pruning and staking.
