This is Aboriginal country. A big area is reclaimed by the Aborigines, trying with different levels of success to get back to their roots. Some communities succeed thanks to the vision of the elders, other settlements are pretty much a mess. World famous Aboriginal tokens like Uluru (Ayer's Rock) and Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) are located smack bang in the south of the NT and with it in the middle of the country. Natural wonders like Kakadu, Litchfield and Arnhem Land should not be missed.
In the north the rainseason makes traveling difficult from October until March. The south of the territory has moderate to warm weather and is always in for a visit (of course it can happen, as we experienced, that the first rain at Uluru after a dry period of 5 months falls at the two days you have planned to visit. Taking pictures of a sunset becomes a bit difficult then).
