The South Coast

The south coast is home to two of Australia's biggest cities: Adelaide (the driest city in the driest state in the driest continent in the world), and Melbourne, Australia's second city (much to their chagrin).  Most activities in the state are concentrated around Melbourne, a nice cosmopolitan city. Apart from crowded areas, the state of Victoria has some fine natural marvels like Wilson's Promontory, the Great Ocean Road and the Grampians. Because it is the south, which is the only part of Australia to experience a real winter (chilly, but don't expect any ice), visits are best made in the summer.

Fred was lucky and had an extended 6 week trip through the south in the height of summer.  I had more time constrained, so I only had 2 weeks - which is enough in the depth of winter!  Click on the first picture to see the gallery.
