After the Naturalist club gathering was over Rick and I got several other photo opportunities in the Knutsford area.

Mallard hen on possible nesting site.
Merlin Hawk with lunch and a friendly male Kestrel Hawk.
April 21 I was out with the Kamloops Naturalist club near Separation Lake. We saw several hundred Sand Hill Cranes but to far for photos. Lots of other birds including a co-operative Robin and a Meadow Lark.

April 20, 2012 had me out walking around Jacko Lake and managed to get a few photos. Three poses of some Marmots, two photos of one of many pine trees stripped of its bark by a porcupine, the old Afton pit close to the lake and a Redwinged Blackbird.

During the second week of April I was with Rick again up to the Clearwater area and here are the photo highlights of the trip.

A bull rush swamp in which there was a Flicker doing his mating call from his nest. On the way up the North Thompson we saw a number of curlews.
During the first week of March I was out with Rick Howie once again and got a couple of eagle photos. Nothing spectacular but nice spring photo opportunities.

When I say Rick knows his birds, he knows his birds so when he said the first eagle's name was Earl and the second eagle working on the nest was named Emma I didn't doubt him for a minute.
Here are a few photos that I have taken in January 2012

3 deer basking on some bare ground and blending in well with an eagle keeping an eye on things.
Roughlegged Hawk hunting. A Northern Harrier Hawk with prey and on the ground eating.
Interesting cloud formation and some Trumpeter Swans

Lots happening December 28th
My birding mentor, Rick, took me out on a search for a Hawk Owl that was reported south of Kamloops and on our way out there we spotted two Rough Legged Hawks and got some great photos of them in their natural environment. We trekked in for about 1/2 km or so and were fortunate enough to spot the Hawk Owl, which is seldom seen at lower elevations, and get some nice photos to share with you. It is always nice when the subjects co-operate so nicely. A quality day to say the very least.

A great day to be outside.
The Hawk Owl keeping an eye on us, sometimes two.

Roughie checking things out from his vantage perch.
Light colored phase Rough legged hawk, one just dropping his landing gear.
Dark colored phase Rough Legged Hawk. Rough legged hawk hunting for a meal.

Rough Legged Hawk on a fence post and on the ground.
Here are my photos from a couple of recent, great days outdoors, including Harlan's Hawk, a Snowy Owl, Redtailed Hawk, Juvinile eagles, Roughlegged Hawks, juvenile bald eagle with a deer's leg, a cricket, along with a few other birds.
