KK Christ Le Are May the 8th 1658
The last will and testament of Jaine Garrett 
als Parre who first remitted her soule to God 
and her bodye to Christian burial.  
Itm, she left to her son Tho: Christian 12 pounds 
and if God did call for the child before he came 
to lawfull age that her brother Charles should 
have the sd 20 pounds. 
Itm, she bequeathed unto her husband George 
Garrett 12 pounds, if he did live to enjoy it. 
Itm, She left to her mother in law Jaine Garrett 
als Stanley 20s and if in case the sd George 
Garrett her husband did not live to enjoy the 
sd legasie of 12 ponds then that her sd mother 
in law should have 40s more, and her father in 
law Jo: Garrett 40s. 
Itm, She left to her husband George if he did 
live a piece of linen at the weaver’s house to 
be him shirts and he to pay for the weaving, 
and if he did not live she left the same to her 
father Parson Parre for shirts.  
Itm, to her mother the gueden[?] cloath.  
Itm, She left to her sister Margaret Parr all 
her cloathing linen & woolen except her green 
apron which she left to her mother in law, 
and a linen apron, and 2 necke handcarcheefs 
to her sister Jaine Garrett.  
Itm, She left to her brethren and sister 
Ellin 20s betwixt them.  
Itm, She left to the 3 servants of the house 
6d apiece.  
Itm, she left to Anne Garrett an old peticott.  
Itm, She left to her mayd servant Mariad Callow 
an old wascott.  
Itm, She desired that her father would give 
Ellin Caisment a little tyth for her paynes, 
all the rest of her goods movable and unmovable 
she bequeathed to her father Parson Robt Parre 
whome she hath constituted and ordained sole executor.  
Itm, She will yt her husband George should give 
her father the woole yt was in the house in part 
of reckoning xx[yt?] of ye parson and if he liked 
not ye woole to give him moneyes for the sd woole.

The Exer sworn.  Probat et solvit 1s.  
Invent within 14 dayes. Sub peona juris.  

Further xxx granted in regard she goods xxx 
and in several hands.                       

To the General Sumner shew (87): Forasmuch as shew 
is complaint made unto 20s by Parson Robt Parr that 
he cannot bring in upon Recorde a perfect Invent of 
the goods of his daugher late deceased whereby our 
office may be secured according to Law; and shall 
in regard the sd goods remaines in several hands and 
especially in the hands of Do: Christian & his children, 
you are therefore hereby required to give strict 
charge to the sd Do: & his children, and all others 
concerned to give in a perfect & exact account 
(upon these oaths) of all such goods as remaines 
in there possession within the space of 14 dayes; 
shall the sd Parson Parr as executor to his sd 
deceased daughter may bring in her Invent accordinge 
to his oath, and in case any one be disobedient 
h---[?here] you are to make affidavit therof that 
such course may be take xxxx as by law is accustomed, 
dated 23d 9ber 1658.

To Nicholas Christian soldier
Foreasmuch as it appears by ye General Sumner 
affidavid bearinge date the 11th of this Instant 
yt he charged Do: Christian his wife & children 
(in purson over of an order of our Court) to give 
in a perfect Invent of all the goods moveable & 
unmoveable due to ye executor of Jaine Parr (yet 
in their possession) within 14 days and yet they 
have noe way observed nor obeyed the same; 
Therefore you are to commit the bodyes of ye sd 
Do: Christian his wife & children until they submit 
to doe ye same accordinge to Law and this shall 
be your warrant 
Dated 26th Febr 1658.

Februiarie ye 11th 16.. 
These are to certifie that according to this order 
I gave you to h-- he---- of Donald Christian, and 
hath given a  xxxxxxx charge unto the foresaid 
Donald his wife and his children to give in a 
perfect inventorie of all ye goods moveable and 
unmoveable of Jane Parr deceased, within the space 
of 14 days as upon there oaths, nosich[?] xxxx gave 
......., to be sworne, by me, until they speake 
with the noble governor in regarde they were 
sworne before thus cerli----- xx ---th xxxx.

14th 8ber 1658
Soe much of ye Inventory within written as remains 
in ye custody of Do: Christian is already ye secured 
by Capt Jo. Tear, Wm Freer, Patr Brew, Finlo Freer 
& Tho:Skally as appears upon record in ye Temporal 
Court and for that part in his own hands Mr, Parson 
Parr hath given securitye Robt Cannel, & Tho: Corlet, 
and to secure the office accordinge to Law.                         

Claymed by ye executors from Patr. Christian a 
moyetie of 18 or 12s ye sd Patr had of the testatrix 
person, before she was married 13 a day without 
her knowledge of consent for which he hath xxx for 
witc[?with] or giveth any manner of satisfaction.                     

23d 9ber 1658
Wm Christian entereth his claime against the executor 
of Jane Garrett als Parr for 10s and craveth the Law.                      

24th 9ber 1658
Patr Christian entereth is claime against the executor 
of Jaine Garrett als Parr for 6 pounds 3s sterling and 
the benefit of the Law.         

Do: Christian entereth his claime against the sd executor 
of Jaine Parr als Garrett for the particulars following 
and craveth the Law:  
Imprimis, for the half of a cow sold by her former 
husband Tho: Christian of the sd Donold’s  0:16:0;       
Itm, for the half of an oxe likewise sold by him  0:06:06;      
Itm, for her part of 18s sterling by the sd Tho xx xxx 
team which he neither paid for restored to his father Do:  0:09:06;       
Itm, for her part of lent money to the sd Tho:  0:10:00;      
Itm, more for her part of the money 0:10:00.                    

To ye honorable judges of ye Will Court 
The humble request of 
Robt Parr clark xxx 
you will accept of these ensuing reasons to 
dismiss Do, Wm, and Patrick Christian’s 
claymes against Jane Parr’s Executor.  
First for Wm Christian’s clayme for 10s 11d 
cannot by any one person prove.  
He gave my daughter a penny onely he 
alledges he lent Tho: Christian 20s peece of 
gold to send my daughter in a token when he 
began to woo[?] her, ys it was soe[?] what 
is freer –en gift but he cannot make it 
appeare that he gave it Tho:Christian or that  
Tho: gave it my daughter neither did he speake 
of it in my daughter hearing during her life 
or call any but Patr to ys Court to object 
for them xxxxx. 
This I offer in the behaulf of the child, 
as for his mother’s part in case it were 
xxxx noe Law in the world (I co----- [?concern]) 
well make her executore --able therbut[?].        
Secondlie for Patr Christian’s clayme of 6 pounds 10s, 
he cannot prove by Lawful witnesses such a 
debt to be due from Tho Christian or Jane 
Parr or that either of them had any thing 
in lien or consideration thereof to the value 
of a penny, he alledges it was a previous 
promise his brother Tho: made unto him; 
xxxx promises without consideration xxxxx[?-weres, -ures, ??] 
noe action; save onely it sa----- of some 
previous bargain as well as publish, 
touching the tanhous[?] for he had nothing els 
or other bargain to give or make.        
Thirdlie for Do: Christian’s clayme for 
3 pounds 18s he cannot prove by Lawfull witnesses 
or soe much as lawfull --rcom xx tauce[?] that 
his son Tho: did owe him any moneys if he 
had goods more then xxx had legalie 
left him by xx ther--- with their increase 
then might be some probabilitie geros[?], and 
if he had any money from his father --her 
there is noe manner of likelihood what shame 
hath[?] sd Don: to clayme it having the sd 
Thos: mother’s goods gifted upon him by the 
sd Tho can a man beg another mans goods and 
after charge him with the debt he oweth him.        
I humbly desire that this pax[?] be recorded 
and annexed to the Christian’s claymes aforesd 
and that they be disbursed as the former 
claymes are and I will pray that you may 
long continue to minister inst--- and remaine, 
your most observant, Ro: Parre.

March 08th 1664
More addede to ye said Inventory by Parson Parr: 
4 bowls of meal and half firlet of malt 
prized, as in Tho: Christian Inventory to 26s.                    

August 1659
Mr. Parson Parre being ye sworne executor of his 
daughter Jane Parr als Garrett hath this day 
exhibited this Inventory, and with all hath affirmed 
to give security for soe much the ... as remains in 
his own custody: but for as much as he alledges ... 
to the above particulars are in the hands of 
Do: Christian and .... he denieth to give security 
to discharge the office till he receive the sd goods. 
Therefore ye Court hath it fitt to give ... dayes 
as longer time to perfect the same and in that ....  
sd Do: Christian is to be delivered the sd 
particulars or ... to prove that they are not due 
That ye sd executor may perform according to ye 
Lawes of this Isle when ye sd Do: Christian shall 
appear refractory ... to ye authority granted to 
ye executor and proofe being made and shall humbly 
desire yt our honorable Governor will grans his 
assistance yt our office ... be secured according 
to Law.
