The exigence of my present affayres, And the
publique saftie of this Island (soe much
threatened at this tyme) enforce mee to a
consideration of some speedie & effectual
course for the victuallinge of my Garrisons;
To this end, I have thought good, to move a
select number of the inhabitants (of whose
good affections I am most confident) that
according to their respective abillityes
they would furnish me, with a certain proportion
of monie or corne to bee ymployed for that
purpose: Amongst them, I shall not doubt of
your ........ to provide the present service,
on which the preservation of this Islande
(by God’s blessinge) doth cheefelie depende;
And therefore I doe desire you, with what
possible speede you can to furnish me with
twenty nobles either in monie or corne to
that valeue, which upon my honour shall bee
disposed of to that use onlie; And thereby
I make noe doubt but to keepe my Castles from
tyme to tyme fully & sufficientlie victualled
without anie further trouble or chardge to
the Countrey. Your cheereful compliance
with my desires herein, I shall looke upon,
as a greate expression of your particular
affections to mee, and the publique
prosperitie of the Countrey. And hereby I
doe not onelie oblige my selfe to repay ye
said some of twentie nobles soe soone as God
shall enable mee, but to make some further
expression of my respect & favour when
occasion shall serve, that may manifest my
serve of greate obligation, which by this
seasonable supply you shall lay upon me ...
desire your answere by the bearer in writinge.
