Katrine Kaighen, 1675

This is affirmed by the subscribed witnesses to 
be the last will and testament of Katr. Kaighen 
being of perfect memory.  
First she committed her soul to God and her body 
to Christian burial.  
Item, she left all her part of the lands and crop 
of corn to her eldest son John Scarfe, and one 
quarter of a heifer and a fledge or coverlet.  
Item, she declared that there was 4s due from Tho: 
Cotter in KK Conchan and 4s from Patr Cannon and 
she left the said 8s to her husband Wm Laurence 
and to her said son John Scarffe.  
Item, she left to her husband Wm Laurence half an ox.  
Item, she left half a heifer for funeral charges 
and her said husband to see it done. Item, she 
constituted and ordained her daughter Ellin Scarffe 
her true and lawful Executrix of all the rest of her 
goods mmoveable and unmoveable whatsoever.  
Item, she declared that there is 1 pound 3 shillings 
due from Phillip Scarff. Also she said that what 
goods she intend for her son Gubbon Scarffe was in 
the custody of his uncle Don: Scarffe. Moreover, 
she said that it was her will that her children shall 
not take away no goods from her husband but what is 
remaining of the goods that came by herself, and 
it was her will that her said husband Wm Laurence 
should have all the goods that he had himself likewise.

The father sworn in form of law and also her brother 
John Scarff and Donll Scarff the uncle on the father’s 
side supervisor in regard there is noxxx near relations 
on the mother’s side.  
Probatum et solvit 12d.          
The Inventory of the above said Katr Kaighen was 
praised by 4 sworn men, viz, Robt Waterson, Phill Fargher, 
Wm Kissag, and Phill Kissage.  
All the goods moveable and unmoveable was praised, 
which did amount to the full sum of 2 pounds 1 shilling.  
The goods in the father’s custody and have given pledges
