January 18th 1679/80:  
In nominee Dei Amen, I Kath: Cowle being sick in body, 
but of good & perfect memory praised be God for it do 
make my last will and testament, in form & manner following:   
First I commit my soul unto God & my body to Xtian Buriall;    
Item to ye poor a firlet of mault & a sheep to be given 
them at all Hollyside next.    
Item I leave & bequeath unto Margret Christian a brown 
petticoat & a broad kerchiefe leg:    
Item to Bahee Xtian, a handkerchiefe, a coife & a forehead cloth    
Item, I leave to Bahee Joughin a little Box for linens, 
& handkerchief and two coifs leg:    
To Marg: Joughin, a handkerchief & a coiffe Leg:    
Item to Mar: Key a kerchiefe, a yellow petticoat, and 
a black russet waistcoat, and a blanket leg:;    
Item I leave and bequeath unto Christian Joughin a black 
petticoat and a Loughton waistcoat, & handkerchief 
& forehead cloth or coife Leg:    
Item I leave & bequeath unto my brother John Cowle 3 
half firlets of barely;    
Item to Daniell Joughin an half firlet of Barly,   
Item I leave & bequeath unto Christian Joughin my 
maid eleven shillings wages;    
Item I leave unto Daniell Kneal ten shillings that 
I borrowed of him. Moreover I acknowledge that John 
Kneal claims five shillings of me wch I owe him, 
and do leave it to be paid by my Executors, if he 
will have it of them.    
Item I leave six shillings to be pd to Bahee Christian, 
which I ow her.    
Item I leave a firlet of Barly to be paid unto my 
brother Hugh Cowles daughter which I owe her.    
Item I leave John Quirk to pay four ;pence which he 
ows me, unto John Key of KK Andrews for turff I had of him.    
Item I leave two pence to be pd unto Daniell Tear 
plowright which I owe him;    
Item I leave four shillings eight pence which  
John Cowle Gubon ows me to be pd to my Exectrs,    
Item Ewan Christian to pay two pence unto my exectrs.   
Item I leave and bequeath unto Phillip Joughin & 
William Christian 12d for being witnesses:    
Item I leave unto my two sons Daniell Cowle & Will: 
Cowle the fourth part of ye crop of corne and two 
parts of all ye goods moveable and unmoveable 
whatsoever after ye debts are paid & discharged, 
except ye gears belonging to husbandry, which I 
leave unto my executor    
Item I constitute and ordaine John Cowle my eldest 
son and heir, executor of all ye rest of my goods 
moveable and unmoveable whatsoever, and do appoint 
William Joughin & John Kneal supervisors over 
ye children during their minority,   
and also do bequeath five shillings unto Will: 
Joughin for being supervisor.

10s 6d and wch debts shall hereafter be discovered & proved.

More deducted out of ye above  18s 0d the price of wt sheep 
were kept out of ye fathers Inventary and now added being 16 s 8d.   
The mothers Invry all discharged.

The good due to ye children by their father, being in their 
mothers hands till she died is now paid into the hands of 
their overseers as followeth:

given pledges for ye same, being 3 pounds 8 shillings 2 pence.

Novr ye 19th 1681:  
Wheras the sum of thirty shillings sterlng is faln due 
to the Execrs of Kath: Cowle by the death of Mary Cowle 
daughter of Hugh Cowle deceased, all parties concernd 
have this day come to ye Records & Willm Joughin of 
Crosby hath received twenty shillings due to the 
youngest two of ye sd Execrs vizt: Dan & Willm Cowle, 
being underage. & hath given pledges for ye forthcomeing 
of the same Jon: Kneal of KK Christ & Jon: Cowl of KK Bride.  
The other child Vizt: Jon Cowle being at lawful age 
hath received his own pt being 12s and all this received 
from ye hands of James Corkill of KK Maughall.
