19        Nov ye 9th 1689, St Ann
The last will and testament of JOHN OATS. First he committed his 
soul to Almighty god and his body to Christian burial. 
Item, He left a parcel of ground which he bought (near Grenick 
Harbour) to his 4 SONS to be a help to them to go to trades. 
Item, He left a sheep to his SON WILLIAM. 
Item, He left the parcel of ground wherein he lived to his loving 
WIFE, to dispose of it to whom she would of his children. 
Item, He committed his DAUGHTER ANNE to his wife to provide for, 
and lastly he made his WIFE sole executor of all his goods moveable 
and unmoveable whatsoever. 
Witnesses: 
John Quinney, 
Philip Kinley. 

THE WIFE IS SWORN EXECUTOR jointly with the YOUNGEST DAUGHTER 
who is made Executor with the mother in regard that nothing 
was left her by the father. 

AN INVENTORY OF THE GOODS of JOHN OATS prized by 4 sworn men viz., 
Hugh Kinnish, Jo: Bridson, Phillip Kinley, & Tho: Bridson: 
Imprimis, All his wearing clothes 00 pounds 08 shillings 00 pence; 
2 horses 00:16:00; 
a cow and half a heifer 01:00:00; 
half a griddle 00:01:00; 
a spade and a half 00:01:04; 
half a pot 00:01:06; 
one ole barrel and an old Standish 00:01:00; 
one wheel 00:01:00; 
half a ladder and half a pair of harrows 00:01:00; 
in flax and hemp 00:01:09; 
one sack and a half and a canvas 00:01:00; 
half the small vessels 00:01:06; 
2 kishans of salt 00:00:06; 
one pike 00:00:02; 
2 sickels and a pair of woolen cards 00:00:08; 
half the harrowing gears 00:00:04; 
Sum 02:16:09. 

The MOTHER hath taken the tuition of the YOUNGEST CHILD 
and the goods and hath given pledges according to Law 
John Quiney and Philip Kinley. 

JUNE 1ST 1702
ANN OATS one of the Executors of JOHN OATES being at 
Lawful age came this day to the record, and doth acknowledge 
to have received at and from the hands of her MOTHER 
and STEPFATHER JOHN KNEAL the sum of 2 pounds 16 shillings 9 pence, 
being the full of what became due by the death of her 
FATHER JOHN OATS, and doth acquit and discharge her 
FATHER and her MOTHER and all parties concerned for 
ever for the same. Witness her subscription the day 
and year first above written.
