          Arbory
In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Norris 
gentleman, Deemster of the Isle of Mann, 
being in good and perfect mind and memory, 
thanks be given to Almighty God for the 
same, though infirm and weak in body and 
being willing and desirous to settle and 
put in order that Estate of goods which it 
hath pleased Almighty God to bless me 
withal before my decease as knowing the 
cause of mortality to be incid..... to all 
men, and uncertain of what time it shall 
please God to call upon me, Do therefore 
make my last will and testament in manner 
and form following.  
First, I commit my soul to Almighty God, 
trusting through the merits of my Blessed 
Saviour Christ Jesus to have full pardon 
and remission of all my sins, and my body 
to be buried in the Church of KK Arbory 
amongst my Relations there, in a decent 
manner at the discretion of my Executor 
hereafter named.  
Item, I leave to the poor of KK Arbory one 
bowl of barley, and to the poor of Castletown 
one bowl more of barley to be distributed 
at my Executors discretion.  
Item, I give and bequeath unto my son Henry 
Norris half the crop of corn and half the 
team of ox, and all the bought lands in the 
same nature as my Father left it unto me, 
excepting only such land as hath been 
bought by myself, which I leave wholly to 
my wife during her own natural life, and 
then to come to my said son after her 
decease to be united with the Estate, 
Also I leave my said son my swords, gu.... 
and all other things due to him as 
heirlooms as also one cow and a steer, 
and my half of a furnished feather bed 
and bedstead; And if it shall please God ......
for my said son before he have issue, that ........ 
his second brother, or whom ... of his brothers ........ 
as heir, is to have the benefit of all ........ 
unto him; also I leave him that ........... 
bequeathed unot me.   
Item, I leave unto my daughter Ellin twenty 
shillings in moneys or goods at the discretion 
of my Executors, and to my daughter Ann thirty 
shillings in money or goods likewise.  
Item, I leave and bequeath unto my dear and 
loving wife my gray mare with a choice cow as 
a legacy.  
I leave to Capt Richard Stevenson five shillings.  
Item, I leave to Mr. John Parr five shillings.  
Lastly, I constitute nominate and appoint my 
three children vizt., Richard, Ralph, and 
Thomas Norris my true and lawful executors 
of all the rest of my goods moveable and 
immoveable whatsoever, and do leave the tuition 
of the said children with their goods unto 
my dear and loving wife, until they come to 
lawful age, and if any of my said Executors die 
before they come to enjoy or dispose of their 
part of the Executorship, that then the same is 
to fall equally to the other Executor or Executors 
that shall survive as above nominated.  
And I do desire my loving friends Capt. Richard 
Stevenson and Mr. John Parr to be overseers of 
my said Children, and to see this my will duly 
performed.  In witness whereof I have hereunto 
put my hand and seal this 4th day of February 
anno domini 1688.

Mrs. Dorothy Norris hath taken the Execution of 
her husband’s will on behalf of her children & 
is sworn to bring in a perfect Inventory, and to 
Administer according to Law.

February 6th 1693/4
Ferd: Calcott enters his claim against the widow and Executors of 
the late Deemster Norris for wrongfully detaining from him eight 
pounds eighteen shillings 3 pence, which he received of Mr. 
Thomas Globir[?] of Linscott[?]. is cancal[?] xxx & promise[?], 
to pay next May 31, 1687, as he will make to appear.      

Ferd: Calcott enters his claim against the widow and the said Executors, 
for five pounds as may appear by accompts taken by Mr. Deemster Parr 
& left in the hands of the said Deemster Norris in xx xxx last, 
die et anno predicto.       

Ferd: Calcott enters his claim against the widow and Executors of 
Mr. Robert Calcott for rent[?] money & other goods to the value of 
four pounds sterling.          

February 7th 1693/4
Mr. Charles Moore enters his claim in the behalf of himself and is 
sister in law Mrs. Mary Harrison against the Executors or 
Administrators of Mr. Deemster Norris for the sum of 60 pounds due 
debt as will be made to appear and craveth the Law.

February the 8th 1693/4
Tho. Costes or Lostes enters his claim against the executors of 
Mr. Thomas Norris Deemster for 21[?] shillings[?] .... as will 
be made to appear & craveth tryall.       

May the 7th[?] 1694
Capt. John Wattleworth enters his claim against the Executors of 
Mr. Deemstere Norris for 12s 8d due &c.       

June the 12th 1694
Mr. Thurstan Tldsley enters his claim against the Executors of 
Mr. Thomas Norris Deemster for the sum of thirty pounds sterling 
due to the said Mr. Thurstan Tildsley in his own behalf and in 
the behalf of Mr. John Whetston, and Mary Heyland as will be 
made to appear and craveth tryall.        

June the 12th 1694
Mr Sam: Robinson & John Waterson[?] enter their claim against the 
executors of Mr. Thomas Norris Deemster for the sum of 18s for 
the year 1693 due fee .... hay & cord as will be made to appear &c.   

Mr. Sam: Robinson enters his claim against the Executors of 
Mr. Thomas Norris Deemster for the sum of 15s betwixt Niland 
Clerk moay, and choice house due &c       

June the 13th 1694
Nich Shimmin and Charles Shimmin enter their claim against the 
Executors of Mr. Thomas Norris Deemster for the sum of thirty 
five shillings due by specialty as appears and craveth trial.

Nich: Bridson enters his claim against the Executors of Deemster 
Thomas Norris for the sum of thirty shillings due by specialty &c.

Isall:[?] Quayle enters her claim against the said Executors for 
the sum of two pounds and four shillings and craveth trial.

June the 18th 1694
John Christian enters his claim against the said Executors for 
the sum of 18 shillings due by specialty as will be made to 
appear & craveth trial.      

Sept 28, 1694
Mrs. Anne Norris enters her claim against the Executors of her 
son Thomas Norris for the sum of fifty & three pounds 7s 8d, &c.        

November the first 1694
George Walker enters his claim against the Executors of Deemster 
Norris for the sum of 17s and 8d due as will be made to appear.        

November 1st 1694
Mr. Henry Harrison & William Farchar enter their claim against  
the Executors of Mr. Deemster Norris for the sum of 12[?] pounds 
due debt as will be made to appear and craveth tryall.  
Per me, Johan Curghey, Registrar Archd.          

November the 1st 1694
Mr. Deemster Parre enters his claim against the Executors of Mr. 
Deemster Norris deceased for the sum of 25s due for the profit 
of a close in Ranoldsway which was rented by him for some years, 
and left to the claimer’s daughter Anne by one Roger Nowell, to 
whome the profits of the said Close did belong for the said 
xxx ........x for 5s left the claimer by his father Comptroller 
Norris and for other particulares the value of 10s & craveth trial.     

Mrs. Margt Halsall enters her claim againstthe Executors of Deemster 
Norris for the sum 27s and 5p &c.     

November the 2nd 1694
Mr. Nich: Harlie enters his claim against the Executors of Deemster 
Norris for the sum of 15s 6d due &c.

Sir John Christian enters his claim against the said Executors for 
the sum of 4s &c.
