26          Bride
This is affirmed to be the last will of Sr. JOHN 
CHRISTIAN clerk, Parson of KK Bryde, who departed 
this life the one and twentieth day of December 
1695. Being in good and perfect memory. 
Imprimis, he commended his soul into the hands of 
Almighty God, and his body to Christian burial. 
Item, he left and bequeathed to the poor five pounds 
to be distributed as followeth, vizt., twenty 
shillings thereof to the poor of KK Bryde, 
twenty shillings to the poor of KK Andreas, 
and three pounds to the poor of KK Mahold and Ramsey. 
Item, he left and bequeathed to the several 
ministers within this Isle five shillings apiece. 
Item, he bequeathed to his BROTHER ROBERT CHRISTIAN 
all that he had in SILVESTER RATCLIFFE's Closes, 
and asking his WIFE's consent thereto for her part, 
she replied I never came cross upon you in any 
thing you did till now. Then he replyed to the 
witnesses, I have two hundred pounds in Lands, 
let her take as much against it. 
Item, he bequeathed to his said BROTHER all his 
sheep in Inshebeeck[?] with their shaglings, and 
all the yearlings in KK Andrews and KK Bryde. 
Item, he left and bequeathed to his BROTHER EWAN 
the tressel and as for all other accounts that 
passed betwixt them that he should never be 
questioned; with half of all his household stuff. 
Excepting his part of the plate which he left 
among his three brethren. 
Item, to the said EWAN two cows and the little 
golden ring that was then upon his own finger. 
Item, he left to his BROTHER WILLIAM CHRISTIAN 
half his sheep in KK Mahold, and all the stragling 
belonging to them and left upon his said brother 
to be true and faithful to his loving WIFE. 
Item, he left and bequeathed to his BROTHER IN 
LAW JOHN LACE twenty pounds to be paid out of 
the Rectory at Easter next, and to be assisting 
in taking it up with the second choice of the 
horses and also of the mairs and a silver spoon 
to go as heirship in the house. 
Item, to his SISTER BESSY a mourning gold ring, 
and all the rest of his rings he left to his 
loving WIFE. 
Item, he left and bequeathed to his honored 
FATHER MAJOR CHARLES CHRISTIAN four pounds. 
Item, to EWAN CHRISTIAN JUNIOR of Cranstall 
three pounds being the moiety of six pounds 
due to him from the said EWAN, and his choice 
of the three oxen that he had in his own keeping. 
Item, to WILLIAM CHRISTIAN'S WIFE and HER 
SON twenty shilling betwixt them. 
Item, to WM CURGHEY'S WIFE a heifer. 
Item, he left and bequeathed to his dear and 
loving WIFE the whole house in KK Bryde as 
a Legacy during her life and after her decease 
to dispose of it as they, vizt., his Executors, 
shall think fit. 
Item, he constituted and appointed his BRETHREN 
aforesaid vizt., WILLIAM, EWAN AND ROBERT CHRISTIAN 
joint Administrators of all the rest of his 
goods moveable and unmoveable whatsoever, and 
left 2 shillings 6 pence apiece to the witnesses 
of his will. 
Item, he ordered that his books should be kept 
until such time as it might appear that his 
BROTHERS WILLIAM'S SON or JOHN LACE HIS SON 
should be thought capable (vizt., as ministers) 
to make use of them; and if neither of them 
were co capacitated that then they were to be 
at the disposal of his Executors. 
Item, he left to Mr. THOMAS ALLEN one of his 
choice books.

The Inventory next Court. 

THE INVENTORY OF GOODS AND CHATTELS of Sir JOHN 
CHRISTIAN brought in by the Executors is 150 pounds 
0 shillings 0 pence. 
The goods in the hands of the Executors who are become 
pledges according to Law the one for the other witness 
their subscriptions this 25th of July 1699.

Note that the 20s legacy left to the poor of KK Andrews 
is paid to Mr. Curghey curate July 25th 1699. 

FEBRUARY THE 10TH 1695/6
CAPT PATRICK GELLING enters his claim against the 
Executors of Parson JOHN CHRISTIAN for the sum of 
fifty shilling due &c.

Mr. JOHN PARR enters his claim against the Executor 
of Sir JOHN CHRISTIAN Parson for the sum of five pounds due &c.

NOVEMBER THE 12TH 1695
WILLIAM CRY enters his claim against the Executors of 
Mrs. DOROTHY CHRISTIAN ALS WILLSON for the sum of 5 
pounds 5 shillings; being the consideration money of 
a parcel of Land by Mr. Edw: Christian Deemster to 
the claimant; 
As also for the sum of 10s loss and damage for all 
which he craves xxx 

JUNE THE 4TH 1696
WILLIAM CARROONE enters his claim against the Executors 
of Sir JOHN CHRISTIAN late parson of KK Bride for the 
sum of 30s due as will be made to appear &c. 

JUNE THE 9TH 1696
EDM: CHRISTIAN enters for 11 pound 10 shilling 0 pence due &c. 

DAN: XTIAN and MARK CORKISH enters their claims 
against the Executors of Sir JOHN XTIAN Parson for 
the sum of 8s due &c.

ROBT CURGHEY enters against the said Executors for 
the sum of 18s due &c.

MR. JOHN TUBMAN enters against the said Executors 
for the sum of 6 pounds due &c.

PHILLIP XTIAN enters against the Executors of Parson 
JOHN XTIAN for a gold ring valued at 20s, &c. 

JULY THE FIRST 1696
EWAN CHRISTIAN enters his claim against the Executors 
of Parson JOHN CHRISTIAN for 2 bowels and firlet of 
moulten corn, and fifty shillings of monie due &c. 

NOVEMBER THE 10TH 1696
JOHN CROW & WILLIAM CLERK enter their claims in behalf 
of the Executor of Sr. WILLIAM CROW against the Executors 
of Sr John Christian for the sum of five pounds and 
8s 2p, presended by Parson Xtian to be pd to CHARLES 
CROW one of the said Executors, and also for 20s which 
he kept out of the accounts of said CHARLES CROW; 
and also for the sum of five pound xxxxxxx for the 
vicarage houses of Jourby, which rested in the said 
Parson's hands, & craves trial. 

Xxx 6TH 1696
JOHN YOUNG enters his claim against the Executors of 
Parson JO: CHRISTIAN for the sum of four pounds five 
shillings, due debts as he can make to appear, & craves the Law. 

OCTOBER 12TH 1696
JONY CHRISTIAN and the EXECUTORS of Sr. JOHN CHRISTIAN 
enter their claims against the Administrators of 
WILL: COUL for the sum of 7 pounds due &c. 

NOVEMBER THE 26, 1696
DAN: CHRISTIAN enters his claim against the Executors 
of Sr. JOHN CHRISTIAN Parson for the sum of 35 shilling. 
PHILLIP CURRY for 4s. 
Mr. CONNING for 3s 10p. 
DAVID CALLISTER for 6s 6p. 
WIDOW ERWIN for 3s. 
All due upon the account of Mr. M---chet School in which 
the said persons promised to pay, as will be made to 
appear and craves the Law. 

DECEMBER 19TH 1696
PAT: COULE enters against the Executors of Sr. JOHN 
CHRISTIAN for 9 pounds and interest xxx for a whole year due &c. 

AT A COURT HELD AT RAMSEY DECEMBER THE 1ST 1696
The received of and from the hands of the WIDOW AND 
EXECUTORS of Sir JOHN CHRISTIAN parson of KK Bride 
the sum of fourty shillings being Sir PATRICK 
THOMPSON's Legacy to the poor of KK Bradan which 
remained in the hands of the said Executors of all 
which I do in my own name and in the behalf of the 
rest of the wardens of KK Bradan acquit and 
discharge the said WIDOW & EXECUTORS, 
I say received the said sum with 12 pence interest 
for the last year by me

DECEMBER THE 2ND 1696
CAPT NICHOLAS CHRISTIAN enters his claim against the 
Executor of Sir JOHN CHRISTIAN Parson, for 2 chairs 
worth 10s for a parcel of sheep and cambs that was 
due to the claimant and made use of by the said Parson 
which he value at 20s, and also for 5s in money due &c. 

DECEMBER THE 22ND 1696
MR. NICH: THOMPSON enters against the Executors of Parson 
JOHN CHRISTIAN for the sum of 5 shilling due for a 
bowl of plaoket. 

DECEMBER 28TH 1696
CHARLES COIL enters against the Executors for 44 shillings. 
Anno et Die predict
JO: CURGHY clerk enters against the said Executors for 
satisfaction for a whole half year, servant at KK Bride 
staying and sewing at KK Bride for half a year until the 
said person had reaped hacked and secured the last crop 
he had upon the Gleabs of KK Andreas in the year 1694; 
for which he promised him satisfaction; 
And also for the ticl of STEPH: KNEEN's boat for a year 
and of THOMAS COWLE's for 2 years. 

FEBRUARY 1ST 1696/7
HEN: MCYLVORREY enters for a bowl of meals anno for 2 years past.

Archdeacon Wills 1696/7, Braddan, 
April 11th 1705, Memorandum
There was a Bill of Mortgage and a Bond of Mr. ROBERT FLETCHER 
late minister of KK Braddan on receipt in this Book 1696, for 
seventeen pounds sterling which he received from Parson JOHN 
CHRISTIAN of KK Bride also late deceased; out of which he was 
obliged to pay twenty shilling yearly on the 25th of March for 
the use of the poor of KK Braddan: which said sum of 17 pound 
(it being the gift of Deemster ROBERT QUAYLE as appears in his 
will Lib. 1643, which sum then was only ten pounds, but lying 
in the hands of Mr. JOHN QUAYLE of Ramsey & his father, the 
Interest thereof with the principal came to the aforesaid sum 
of 17 pounds) is now repaid to the Church Wardens of KK Braddan 
by the Relict of Mr. FLETCHER as appears by their acquittance 
bearing date the 9th April 1705, and is to be found in Lib. 1705: 
Thereupon the said Bill of Mortgage and Bond of Mr. FLETCHER 
is taken of Record, and return to Mrs. ANN WATLEWORTH by Mr 
Archdeacon's WATLEWORTH's order.

JUNE THE 18TH 1698
THE EXECUTORS OF PARSON JOHN CHRISTIAN hath obliged themselves 
before the Rt. Revd. Father in God Thomas Lord Bishop of this 
Isle, to pay the sum of five pounds being an allowance towards 
reparation of the parish church of Jourby deducted xxx of the 
goods of Sr. William Crow, and lodged in the hands of the said 
Parson CHRISTIAN; which said sum they have obliged themselves 
to pay upon his Bishops order after 2 months notice.
