William Bell of ye Parish of St Katherin’s Coleman 
in City of London, Taylor, & Thomas Linney mariner 
belonging to her Majesty’s Ship ye Bristall, severally 
made oath; 
And first ye sd Bell saith the Thomas Fox deceased 
who lated belonged to her Majesty’s sd ship being 
in his life time and ye last time he was in London 
was a Lodger in the Deponent’s house, And sayth that 
ye sd Fox did often declare to this Deponant, that 
in case should die at ye West Indies or elsewhere 
that John Christian his brother in law who lived at 
ye Isle of Man should have all ye money’s and goods 
or merchandizes that he ye sd Fox should be possessed 
of, at his decease, And all wages or otherwise that 
was due and owing to him for his service, And this 
Deponant Thomas Linney sayth that ye sd Thomas Fox 
being in ye Hospital at Kings Towne in Jamaica he 
this Deponant often went to see him, And ye sd Fox 
often told him this Deponant that if he dyed, that 
ye above named John Christian naming ye abovesd place 
where Christian lived, that he ye sd Christian should 
have all his ye sd Fox’s whole Estate that he had in 
goods, moneys, or wages due to him and desired this 
Deponant to acquaint ye sd Christian of his ye sd 
Fox’s death (if so) that he may look after ye same, 
And sayth that the sd Fox dyed in ye Hospital aforesd 
on ye 30th Janry 1705.

At a Court held in Ballure Chaple before ye 
Rt Reverd ye Ld Bishop ye Revd ye Archdeacon 
and Vicar’s Genls of this Isle.  Insula Mona
to all Christian People to whom these presents 
shall come greeting, 
Know ye that ye within Jon: Christian is marryed 
to Margery Fox ye sister of ye withing mentioned 
Thomas Fox deceased, And ye said John Christian 
hath given security in ye Ecclesiastical Court 
of this Isle to Pay all debts that shall or may 
be lawfully recovered as far as ye effects of ye 
sd Thomas Fox (which he shall receive) will 
extend unto, All ....... certifie for a truth to 
whome it may concern, As witness our subscriptions 
ye 30th day of October 170x:
