therefore to prevent (as far as in me lies)
all contests and disputes after my death,
do make and constitute this my last will
and testament in manner and form as followeth.
First, I commit my soul to God and
my body to Christian burial, to be interred
in KK Patrick churchyard with my deceased
children, my funeral expenses left to my
executor’s discretion.
Item, I leave and bequeath to the poor
of KK Patrick the sum value or equivalent
of ten shillings to be paid and distributed
at the pleasure and discretion of my executor.
Item, I leave bequeath and settle upon my
son and heir Thomas Radcliffe my half or
part (as I am now possessed) of the crop
team husbandry geers, and all other utensils
of that kind belonging to the Estate,
desiring and requesting my loving wife
Ellinor Radcliffe als Christian at her
decease to leave and settle the other
part of the premises (as she is now
possessed of) likewise upon my said son
if he survives her, upon consideration
that he shall be obliged to pay unto my
daughter Margery the sum of five pounds
as soon as he enters upon the first part
of the Estate vizt., my present right
of the same, after his arrival to the
age of one and twenty years. Item, I
leave and bequeath unto my two daughters
unmarried Ellinor and Jane twenty pounds
apiece, to be paid when my Executor
hereafter mentioned shall think convenient,
or when they shall discreetly and
advisedly dispose of themselves in marriage.
Lastly, I nominate constitute and appoint
my dear and loving wife Ellinor Radcliffe
aforesaid my whole and sole Executrix of
all the rest of my goods chattels and
effects whatsoever moveable and immoveable;
hereby desiring and enjoining my said
Executrix to satisfy and discharge all
my just debts, and other incumbrances
and debts upon me to my three daughters
already married; with legacies likewise
to my youngest daughters, out of the
mortgages money payable by Mr. John Taubman
of Bowling Green, as by a Bill of Mortgage
for the purpose given may appears. And do
further appoint my loving brother in law
the Worshipful Deemster Christian, and my
cousin John Taubman aforesaid guardians
and supervisors of my son and heir, and
of my two daughters Ellinor and Jane
during their minority, hereby charging
my said son and daughters to take such
advice and instruction from their guardians
aforesaid as they shall think proper and
conducive to their future good, as they
expect my blessing; it being my whole
intent by making choice of these gentlemen
as guardians, that my children aforesaid
by observing their counsel and directions
may not miscarry, nor take ill courses.
