60    Peeltown 1734
The last will and testament of Dorothy Herd, who departed 
this life the eleventh day of this instant November anno 
prior, she being in perfect mind and memory at the making 
thereof as followeth: 
First, she committed her soul to God and her body to 
Christian burial in the Cathedral Church in Peel Castle. 
Item, she left and bequeathed unto her brother Silvester 
Fairbrother a crown legacy. 
Item, she bequeathed and devised unto her cousin Jane 
Nelson her best black hood; to Jane Clucas a red wearing 
petticoat, a coarse shift, with a suit of mobs. 
Item, she left to her cousin Mabel Radcliff alias Cross, 
a pair of calamanco shoes with black lacing; to Jane Herd 
one of the little wheels, and the green calamanco shoes, 
with a pair of stockings and a while neck lace. 
Item, she left her wearing gown to poor Amy Johnson. 
Item, she left to the witnesses of the will half a 
crown apiece. 
Her will and desire was that Jane Elleson should be 
considered for her care of attending her in her sickness. 
Lastly, she nominated constituted and appointed her 
loving sister Elizabeth Fairbrother whole Executrix of 
all the rest of her goods, obliging her to take care 
of her mother’s maintenance and support in all 
necessaries during the course of her natural life, 
excluding and debarring all persons that might any 
way pretend right to her goods by six pence legacy 
to any such.

William Tear, 
Philip Craine. 
The Executrix Elizabeth Fairbrother with her husband 
Thomas Crellin are sworn in form of Law and gave pledges 
Silvester Ellison and Philip Crain
