Castletown Dec 6th 1742
In the Name of God Amen I Katherine Qualtrough
als Waterson Relict of William Qualtrough of Ren-
wollin in the Parish of Trinity Rushen being of sound …
& disposing /\? & perfect memory & mindful of the instability
of this uncertain Life do make this my Last Will
& Testament & in making form as hereafter mentioned:
First: I commend my soul to God & my Body to Christian Buriall
hoping through the merits of my Blessed Saviour Jesus Christ
to obtain pardon & Redemshion of all my Sins & a joyful
Resurrection to everlasting Life. And as for the
worldly Goods & Effects wherewith it hath pleased God
to bless me I bequeath & dispose off them as they are
in my last will hereafter set forth – Imp I give
& bequeath to the Poor of the Parish of Trinity Rushen
thirty shillings to be distributed to the most needy of them
within that Parish according to the Discretion of my
Exetrs hereafter named. Itm I leave & bequeath to the
poor of the Town of Castletown twenty shillings willing
& requiring my exectrs to distribute both these Bequests to the
Poor at Easter imediately after my Decease – Itm I give
& bequeath forever as an additional subsistence for the
Vicar or Curate of the Parish of Trinity Rushen for the
time being, the sum of fifteen pounds, wch sum I have
secure’d by a Mortgage from William Mylchreest on
a new erected Corn Miln situate in the Parish of Malew
in that the Rt Revd the Lord Bishop & his Vicars General
for the time being may be graciously pleased to see &
give order that the yearly intrest of this my poor
Benefaction to that Vicarage may be only apply’d
from time to time as the same ….. become one to
the particular use of the vicar or curate of that
parish for the time being according to the intention
of this my last will. I leave & bequeath to Anne
Mcylvorrey of KK Xt Rushen the half of my Dwellings & lease??
of the Dwelling House in Castletown, viz the Kitchen – end
& Room over it, with half the back side, half the Brew
House and half the Garden there unto belonging with half of
… Easements appertaining And the other Half of the
said Dwelling House with the other Half of the Brew House
& Backside garden & half the Easemt thereunto I leave to
Thomas Waterson, son of my Nephew Thomas Waterson
of Castletown. Itm To Isabel Nelson als Calister of Balla
Killey in KK Xt Rushen I leave three pounds. To Marjery
Gawn als Qualtrough, widow of John Gawn my large Iron
Pot. To Elinor Tear als Taylor, my god daughter now of KK
Andreas I leave thirty shillings. To William Watersons son
of BallaHayme? my kinsman I leave twenty shillings
To his sons Thomas & John I leave each of them twenty
Shillings To Marjery Calow als Gawn Relict of Edward
Calow late of Castletown I leave three pounds. To Elinor
Carin als Qualtrough of KK Xt Rushen I leave thirty shills.
To William Martin of Ramsey & 2 daughters five pounds
equally betwixt them. To the three daughters of James
Curlet of the sd Town three pounds equally betwixt them
To Harry Mcylworrey of Peeltown I Bequeath thirty shills
To John Bridson son of my Niece Jane Bridson of Castle
town I leave three pounds. To my Niece Jane Bridson,
wife of Thos Bridson I leave half the Garden called
Richard Halsals Garden To my Nephew Thos Waterson
I leave the other Half of the sd Halsals garden. To my
relation Harry Waterson of Dublin I leave Fifty Shills.
To Thomas Clucas of Porters Rowe, Dublin I leave
fifty shillings. To my Niece Margaret Waterson widow
of John Waterson Castletowne, I leave five pounds
To Christin Cubon & Mary Cubon daughtrs of Mary Cubon
als Christian deceas’d I leave three pounds equally betwixt
them. To Alice Clark als Qualtrough wid. now at the
Great Miln near Castletown I leave thirty shillings.
Itm To Margaret Kermod (daughtr of John (xd out) Kermod of
Castletown (xd out ) deceas’d) my kinswoman, I leave forty shills.
Itm To Katharine Calow (daughtr of Wm Calow
Of BallaGlass in Maughold Parish ) now of Castletown
I leave twenty shills. – To Margaret Calister (daughtr
of Daniel Calister deceas’d) my kinswoman, I leave twenty
shillings To Peter & John sons of my Nephew
Thomas Waterson of Castletown I leave four
pounds equally betwixt them. To my god-daughter
Isabel Kissack daughter of William Kissack of
Laxey I leave twenty shillings.To Harry
Qualtrough of Kentraugh Miln I leave
five pounds. I give and bequeath unto his Brother
John Qualtrough of Balla-kill-Patrick ……..
all whatever money he is indebted unto me.
To Ann Corrin als Crebbin wife of Harry Corrin
Of Port Ern I leave twenty shillings . To my god
son John Waterson of Cregneash & Katharine his wife
I leave thirty shillings. To my God daughter Katharine Gawn daughter
of Harry Gawn of Cregneash I bequeath twenty shillings.
To the eldest daughter of my kinsman John Cottiman of
Douglas deceas’d I leave three pounds. To Elizabeth Clark
daughter of John Clark of Castletown webstr. a linen web
of twenty one yards or thereabout & of 3 yards out of the pound
now in the hands of her Father aweaving. Lastly I or-
dain & constitute my kinsmen John Quirk sen. of Croggah and
John Moor of BallaHow,both of Santan Parish, joint exectrs of this
my last Will, willing, requiring & obliging my sd exers hereby
to redeem & pay off whever Mortgage is upon the Dwelling
house of my Nephew Thomas Waterson of Castletown at the
time of my Decease & leave it for my Nephew whout any
Incumbrance. And to hereby revoke & disannul all former Wills
Legacies & Bequests heretofore by me made or declared, ….
& confirming this my last Will& Testament as Witnesseth my Name
& manual sign the day & year above written.

At a Court of Correction in Balla Salla
Feb: 26 1742
The Revd John Quayle one of the witnesses to this will
has made oath to the truth of the Contents and that the same
was written by him by direction of the Testatrix, and read
unto her several times by him. She declaring it to be her
last Will - And that she put her mark thereto in his presence.
She being then of sound mind and memory.
Said Mr Quayle has also made Oath to ye Codicils annexed.
Samuel Moore the other subscribing witness desposes that the –
Testatrix being of sound mind & memory put her mark to the within
Deed in his presence and declared the same to be her last will and
that he then subscribed his name as within written.
John Quirk sen one of the Execrs having died before the probatim est
John Moore the other Execr is sworn to bring a Perfect Inventory
to the Registry – As also for the payments of Debts & Legacys accord
ing to Law – Pledges are the Revnd Paul Crebbin & Capt John
Clucas.

Whereof I aforesd Margt Quirk (one to) …. of discretion do
Consent to give him my sd brother four pounds to be paid out
of ye Inventory , and my mother widow Quirk the twenty shillings
of her own Effects to be paid him anytime. Also do Acknow
ledge to have received the cloath valued at 12s aforesd thus it is sett
down in ye Inventory this 18th March 1745

Now going of the Island bound for Scotland has
Ordered my son in Law Ewan Christian & my
Daughtr Ann Kneen als Corlett to come there where
I hope and do Desire yt ye pay the Leggassey bequeathed
to my three Daughtrs by Mrs Catherine Qualtorough
Deceased. & their Receipt shall be your safe Dis
charge for the same. I beg that ye will discharge us
this time without further trouble, & in so doing
ye will very much oblige your affectionate friends.&
