Articles of marriage concluded and agreed upon by and between Margratt
Skillicorn als Kewley of Kk Lonnan on her own behalf and Gilbt Karran of
the prsh of Kk Marown in his own behalf as followeth.
First the Intended young copple is to Enter into the Holy Estate of
Matrimony at or before a week after Candlemas day next Ensuing God and Holy
Church alowing the same
Secondly it is agreed that if either the said Margtt or Gilbt Karran died
within a Twellmonth and a day after ther marriage that then and in that
case the parties surviving is to have twenty shills Legacy of the Decedents
Goods
Thirdly It is agreed upon that if the sd Gilbt Karran Die without issue
that the said Gilbt Goods after their marriage a Twellmonth and a day is to
descend to her the sd Margtt his intended wife and if God pleases to grant
issue between the said cupple, Gilbt and Margt. then and in that case its
the sd Gilbt Careen his mind and do hereby settell the one half of his
Goods upon his wife and the other half to be Reserved for his Children
And for performance of all these Articles - both parties do hereby bind
themselves Each to the other their Heirs Exr Admr in penallty of Twenty
pound the one half to the Honerble Lord of the Isle and the other half to
the party Grieved as witness our names and marks this fourteenth day of
January one thousand seven hundred and seventeen 1717/18

Further is the said Gilbt do Remove from Aigness Tenement by her, her
Intended wife Death that then in that Case he do settell a Quarter of the
sd Farm upon the Hairs of the Estate if they be of his wife Issue or her
sister Elner and no further

The partys to these Articles of marriage have acknowleged the same to be
their voluntary act & Deed Before me

The within Contract of marriage being acknowledged before the Deemstr and
now published in Court and no objection made against it — Therefore the
same is confirmed according to Law

At a Chapter Court in Douglas May 20, 1744 Thomas & Jane Karran the
children at Age, having surrendered their Right to the Goods of the
Deceased unto their Mother Margt Karran  — The within Deed is Accepted for
the last will of Gilbt Karran upon which she is Sworn for paymt of Debts in
form of Law And whereas Jon a Son of ye Decd is under age his Right is
Preserv'd   And to that end the wid: is also Sworn to bring an Inventory to
the Regcy Pledges are the Revd Mr Curghy Cuvato & Wm Quill Sumnr
