This is affirmed to be the Last Will & Testament of 
John Scarffe of KK Lonan who departed this Life a[bout] 
22d Oct 1747 being of perfect Mind & memory at [the] 
making hereof.  First He committed his Soul unto God 
and his Body to Christian Burial.  Itm He left to his 
two Children twenty shillings Legacy apiece.  Itm He 
left to the Child upon his Wife’s bearing twenty [shillings]  
Itm He left the Tuition & Care of the said Children [to] 
Margt Scarffe their Mother and also the whole pr[ofits] 
and Income of his Lands to her until the Heir shou[ld] 
arrive to Twenty four years of Age, and was not to enjoy [the] 
Same until then.  Itm He left twelve pence a piece to 
the Wittnesses of this His Will, and His Saddle to the 
Minister or a Crown for preaching his funeral Ser[vice].  
Itm He left six pence Legacy to any one might Claim 
any right to his Effects – Lastly he nominated and 
appointed his affores’d Loving Wife Sole Exec’trix of 
all the rest of His Goods moveable & immoveable 
of what kind & nature soever.

     The Exec’x is sworn in Court in form of Law_
     The tuition of the children together with their 
     Goods are Comitted unto their Mother pursu[ant]
     to the Will – She has given pledges for pay
     :ment of Debts and Legacys viz Thos 
     Fargher & James Scarf

Danl Scarff & Philip Scarff Brothers of the deceased are 
sworn supervisors of the children  [this s/b “child” as the 
other two Thomas & Catherine had recently died.
