27 Bride This is affirmed to be the last will and testament of CHRISTOPHER COWLE of Ballavear in the Parish of KK Bride who departed this life about the twentieth of November last 1753. First, he bequeathed his soul to God and his body to be buried in the grave of his forefathers. Secondly, he left to each of his GRANDCHILDREN one guinea and to his two GREATGRANDSONS half a guinea each. To the poor of the parish a firlet of barley. Thirdly, he left the Curragh which he lately purchased to the HEIR of Ballavear and the same to fall and descent in the nature of inheritance (after the decease of his Executrix hereafter mentioned), the said HEIR paying the sum of twenty pounds to the Executors of his DAUGHTER JANE COWLE who is to possess the same during her natural life. He also acknowledged that he received one and twenty pounds from his GRANDSON WILLIAM COWLE which was part of the consideration money paid by him at the time of his purchasing the said Curragh. He likewise asked MARGRET COWLE ALS CALLOW HIS GRANDDAUGHTER IN LAW if she would leave her right of the said Curraugh to the said HEIR, to which she replied that she had no right therein to leave, and that whatever right she had therein she consented to leave it as aforesaid. He also declared that THOMAS jocky owed him five pounds; that JOHN COWLE SON OF ARTHUR COWLE owed him one guinea, and that PHILIP LORD owed him eight shillings and eleven pence. Lastly, he nominated constituted and appointed his DAUGHTER JANE COWLE whole and sole Executrix of all the rest of his goods moveable and immoveable of what nature soever. Witnesses: Matthias Christian, William Curghey. THE SAID CHRISTOPHER COWLE some nights before his decease called WILLIAM CURGHEY one of the above witnesses and in his presence left to his GRANDDAUGHTER IN LAW MARGRET COWLE ALS CALLOW his gray mare and two old horses, she paying his Executrix half a guinea for each of the said old horses. He also left two English shillings to the two witnesses of his will. [signed his mark as witness:] William Curghey. AT A COURT OF CORRECTION HOLDEN at Lezayre, February 11th, 1754 Capt. MATTHIAS CHRISTIAN & WILLIAM CURGHEY the witnesses to the within will have proved the same in form of Law, excepting that said Capt Christian does not know anything of the bequest made to MARGARET COWLE ALS CALLOW, which the Executrix however consents to & promises to pay, whereupon the said Executrix JANE COWLE is sworn in Court in form of Law and hath given pledges for payment of debts and legacies namely said Capt. Christian and John Gill of Lezayre. Probatum est; Ro: Radcliffe, Matthias Curghey. AT LEZAYRE FEB: 11TH 1754: MARGRET COWLE ALS CALLOW is behalf of herself and her ORPHAN CHILDREN enters a claim against the Executrix of CHRISTOPHER COWLE for the sum of twenty one pounds, and craves the Law. AT A COURT OF CORRECTION at Lezayre, Feb: 11th 1754: The Claimner having proved the sum of twenty one pounds, ordered that the same be discharged sub poena juris with fees. To the Sumner of KK Bride who if disobeyed is to apply for a Soldier. Ro: Radcliffe, Matths: Curghey. MARCH 5TH 1754: WILLIAM CHRISTIAN HUSBAND OF ELLINOR and HANNAH CHRISTIAN THE GRANDCHILDREN OF CHRISTOPHER COWLE have acknowledged that they are fully satisfied and paid by said Christopher's Executrix their respective legacy bequeathed unto the by their grandfather and do hereby acquit the Executrix forever for the same. Before me, Matthias Curghey. MAY 20TH 1771: ISABEL COWLE ALS CASTIL WIFE OF CHRISTOPHER COWLE late deceased GRANDCHILD OF CHRISTOPHER COWLE has acknowledged that she is fully satisfied and paid by said CHRISTOPHER COWLE'S Executrix her respective legacy of half a guinea bequeathed unto her late HUSBAND by HIS GRANDFATHER CHRISTOPHER COWLE and doth hereby acquit and discharge the Executrix forever of the same. Before me, Thos. Cubbon. MAY 20, 1771: JANE COWLE THE EXECUTRIX within named acknowledged to have received from MARGARET COWLE ALS CALLOW the sum of one guinea which said MARGARET COWLE ALS CALLOW was to pay her for the two old horses. Before me, Thos. Cubbon. AT KK MAUGHOLD, MAY 23RD 1774: WE DOROTHY CHRISTIAN & CATHARINE CHRISTIAN the Executrices of JANE COWLE acknowledge to be fully paid and satisfied the sum of twenty pounds (which we were to receive from the HEIR of Ballavear in consideration of the Curragh which was to descend and fall to the heirs of Ballavear after the decease of JANE COWLE in the nature of Inheritance) and by the hands of ISABEL COWLE MOTHER OF THE SAID HEIR & WILLIAM COWLE HIS UNCLE by the father's side (the HEIR being underage). And we do hereby acquit release and discharge the said HEIR THOMAS COWLE, HIS MOTHER ISABEL COWLE together with WILLIAM COWLE his guardian of said sum of twenty pounds. MARCH 9TH 1772: I WILLIAM COWLE one of the GRANDCHILDREN of the within named Testator CHRISTOPHER COWLE do acknowledge to have received the sum of one guinea a legacy bequeathed me by my said GRANDFATHER CHRISTOPHER COWLE, and I do hereby acquit release and discharge the Executrix of my said GRANDFATHER CHRISTOPHER COWLE of said legacy or any part thereof, as witness my hand the day and date above mentioned.
