William Gell, 1759

William Gell of Bellelby departed this life on or about the 4th day of April last 
Intestate. The Court upon Intelligence thereof Decrees his six Children namely 
William, Cath, Thos, Henry, John and James joint Administrators of all his Goods 
and Chattles moveable and immoveable whatsoever. Ester the eldest daughter having 
obtained Dowry and this day acknowledged by Thos. Martin her husband – Cath, 
Thos, Hen, John and James being underage they with their goods are committed to 
the Tuition of their brother William and brother in-law Thos. Martin, who are sworn 
Supervisors in form of Law – they are also to bring a perfect Inventory to the 
Registry, and to pay the Debts of the Deceased as far as the goods will extend and the 
Law shall bind, and have given pledges in form of Law namely Thos. Key and 
William Quirk both of Kirk Patrick.

Ball Elby in the parish of Kirk Patrick do acknowledge to have Received from our 
mother Catherine Gell Widow, the sum of Five pounds thirteen shillings and four 
pence a piece vitz.

June 29th 1767
William Gell, Thomas Gell, Henry Gell and John Gell came and acknowledged that 
they have severally received the Sums respectively due unto them by the Decease of 
their father William Gell and do hereby Acquit exonerate and discharge their mother 
Catherine Gell for ever for the same, as also their Supervisors William Gell, Thos. 
Martin.

To be annexed to the Decree of William Gell of Kirk Patrick.

June 29th 1767
Patrick Quirk husband of the within named Catherine Quirk alias Gell came likewise 
and acknowledged that he is fully satisfied and paid all their share of goods that fall 
due unto them by the Death of their father William Gell and doth hereby Acquit 
exonerate and Discharge their Supervisors Thomas Martine and William Gell as also 
the Widow of said William Gell for the same.
