I Anne Qualtrough alias Dawson of the town of Douglas, am at present very weak and sickly, but of sound mind and perfect memory, and considering the uncertainty of this mortal life do make this my last will and testament in manner following. And in case my said daughter Jane Qualtrough shall die without issue, lawfully begotten, that then and in that case my desire is that all the effects that shall belong to her, shall fall and descend unto the said Philip Cannell his heirs executors administrators or assigns, to be possess by him or either of them, immediately at her decease, provided that he the said Philip Cannell shall and will supply her with reasonable and necessary things that she may stand in need of all which are to be taken out of the effects belonging unto my said daughter Jane Qualtrough, and in case that there shall be any objection made by the Court, or by any other person or persons, that the goods and effects that shall belong to my said daughter do fall and descent unto the within said Philip Cannell guardian, after her decease if she die childless, I do in that case appoint that appropriate maintainance yearly be allowed out of the effects belonging to her, as the Court’s discretion, and my said daughter to be xxxxx in any credible house, and it is to be understood that this do not debar the said Philip Cannell from having the effects belonging to my said daughter after her decease if she die without issue lawfully begotten as aforesaid. And lastly, I do ordain, nominate and appoint my said only daughter Jane Qualtrough sole Executrix of all my worldly goods and effects of what kind or nature soever. In testimony whereof I have set my mark to my name this the 25th day of Mxx 1760. [signed her mark] Anne Qualtrough alias Dawson my mark X.
