4      Castletown
In the name of God. Amen.  I ANN MOORE OTHERWISE FARGHER 
(WIFE OF SAMUEL MOORE) of the town of Castletown being 
weak in body but of sound mind, memory and understanding 
and considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty 
of the time when, Do make and publish this my last will 
and testament in manner and form following.  
First, I commit my soul to God and my body to Christian 
burial hoping for mercy through the merits of my Blessed 
Saviour Jesus Christ and forgiveness of all my sins.  
I give and bequeath unto the poor of the Parish of Kirk 
Malew and the Town of Castletown the sum of five pounds 
to be paid and distributed unto them by my Executor 
herein after mentioned.  
I give and bequeath unto the CHILDREN OF MY BROTHER 
THOMAS FARGHER, that is to say WILLIAM FARGHER, 
JOHN FARGHER, ROBERT FARTHER, ISABLE KENNAIGH 
OTHERWISE FARGHER AND DEBORAH FARGHER the sum of 
five pounds apiece and to my said BROTHER'S SON called 
THOMAS FARGHER the sum of ten pounds.  
I give and bequeath unto the CHILDREN OF MY LATE SISTER 
CHRISTIAN CROUGHAN OTHERWISE FARGHER, that is to say, 
WILLIAM CROUGHAN, MARY CROUGHAN, AND MARGARETT CROUGHAN 
the sum of five pounds apiece.  
I give and bequeath unto the SON AND FOUR DAUGHTERS of 
my late SISTER ESTHER CAIN OTHERWISE FARGHER the sum 
of five pounds apiece.  
I give and bequeath unto JOHN FARGHER SON OF my late 
BROTHER WILLIAM FARGHER the sum of twenty shillings.  
I give and bequeath unto my FATHER IN LAW THOMAS MOORE 
the sum of thirty shillings.  
I give and bequeath unto my three NIECES ISABLE KENNAIGH, 
MARY GRIMSHAW OTHERWISE CROUGHAN, & THE ELDEST DAUGHTER 
OF MY SISTER ESTHER CAIN one gown one petticoat & one shift apiece.  
I give devise and bequeath unto my loving and 
affectionate HUSBAND SAMUEL MOORE all the rest 
residue and remainder of such Estate real and 
personal as I shall die possessed of, his Executor 
or Administrator paying the further sum of twenty 
pounds after his decease amongst my NEPHEWS & NIECES 
afore mentioned.  
I order will and direct that my Executor shall 
have the space of three years to pay my aforesaid 
nephews & nieces the legacies already devised them.  
Lastly, I constitute nominate order and appoint 
my said HUSBAND SAMUEL MOORE Executor of this 
my will and residuary legatee of all the rest 
of my goods and effects moveable and immoveable 
of what nature or kind soever, cutting off and 
depriving all claimors with six pence legacy.  
In witness whereof I the said ANN MOORE have to 
this my last will and testament set my hand and 
seal this ninth day of November in the year of 
our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty.

AT A COURT OF CORRECTION HOLDEN at Castletown 18th February 1761
The Executor is sworn in Court in form of Law, 
and hath given pledges for the payment of debts 
and legacies, namely Mr. Edwd. Killey & 
Mr. John Quillin both of Castletown the witnesses of the Will.             

CASTLETOWN 20TH MARCH 1761: 
THIS DAY JOHN FARGHER SON of the late WILLIAM FARGHER 
BROTHER to the within Testatrix ANNE MOORE came to 
the Registry and acknowledged that he hath received 
from Mr. SAMUEL MOORE HUSBAND & Executor of the said 
ANNE MOORE ALS FARGHER the sum of twenty shillings 
being the legacy left  bequeathed to him the said 
JOHN FARGHER by his said AUNT ANNE MOORE deceased, 
and doth hereby acquit discharge and release the 
said Mr. SAMUEL MOORE his Executors Administrators 
& Assigns of the same forever. 
Before me, John Gill, Ar:Regr.           

CASTLETOWN 5TH MAY 1761
THIS DAY THOMAS KENNIAGH & ISABEL KINNIAGH ALS FARGHER 
HIS WIFE came to the Registry and acknowledged that 
they have received from Mr. SAMUEL MOORE HUSBAND 
and Executor of the said ANNE MOORE ALS FARGHER 
late aunt of the said ISABEL KINNIAGH the sum of 
five pounds as also the gown petticoat & shift 
bequeathed to the said ISABEL by the said ANNE MOORE 
deceased, and do hereby acquit discharge & 
release the said SAMUEL MOORE his executors 
administrators & assigns of the same forever. 
Before me, John Gill, Ar:Regr.          

LEZAYRE 17TH OCTR 1763
THIS DAY I PHILIP CANNELL of the Parish of KK Michael 
HUSBAND OF ANN CAIN THE ELDEST DAUGHTER OF 
THE LATE ESTHER CAIN ALS FARGHER (SISTER OF 
the within named Testatrix ANNE MOORE) came 
to the Registry and acknowledged that I have 
received at and from the hands of SAMUEL MOORE 
of Castletown HUSBAND & Executrix of the 
said ANNE MOORE the full and just sum of 
five pounds legacy which was left unto my 
said WIFE ANNE CAINE by the said ANNE MOORE 
HER AUNT and also that he hath received the 
other legacies which she hath left my said 
wife being a gown, a petticoat & a shift, 
and I do hereby acquit release and discharge 
the said SAMUEL MOORE his executors administrators 
& assigns forever as witness my mark to 
my name the day and date above written. 
PHILIP CANNEL his mark.           

APRIL 24TH 1764: THIS DAY I WM. KNEEN of 
the parish of Lezayre mason HUSBAND of the 
within named legatee MARGARET CROUGHAN do 
hereby acknowledge to have received at 
and from the hands of SAMUEL MOORE Executor 
of the within will of ANNE MOORE ALS FARGHER 
the sum of five pounds legacy which was 
left by the said Anne Moore to the said 
MARGT CROUGHAN MY WIFE, & do hereby discharge 
the said SAMUEL MOORE his Executor administrator 
& assigns of the said five pounds forever. 
Witness by mark to my name the day and date 
above said. WM KNEEN my mark.           

LEZAYRE 11TH JANRY 1766
THIS DAY WE WILLIAM CAINE, JANE CAINE, 
MARGARET CAIN, & CATHERINE CAINE all of 
the parish of KK Michael being the SON 
AND THREE DAUGHTERS OF ESTHER CAIN ALS 
FARGHER SISTER to the within named Testatrix 
ANNE MOORE ALS FARGHER do hereby 
acknowledge to have each and every of 
us received the sum of five pounds being 
the several & respective legacies left 
and bequeathed unto us by our said AUNT 
ANNE MOORE ALS FARTHER the said Testatrix 
at and by and from the hands of SAMUEL 
MOORE OUR UNCLD Executor of the said last 
will and testament, and do hereby each 
and every of us acquit, release & 
discharge him the said SAMUEL MOORE 
his executors administrators & assigns 
thereof, the said five pounds left and 
bequeathed unto each and every of us as 
aforesaid forever. As witness our marks 
to our names the month and year above

CROUGHAN NIECE of theTestatrix ANN MOORE 
ALS FARGHER do hereby acknowledged to 
have received at & from the hands of 
SAMUEL MOORE of Castletown HUSBAND & 
Executor of the said late ANNE MOORE 
the full and just sum of five pounds 
legacy as also a gown, petticoat & 
shift left & bequeathed unto my said 
WIFE MARY GRIMSHAW by her said AUNT 
ANNE MOORE, and I do hereby acquit 
release and discharge the said 
SAMUEL MOORE his Executors Administrators 
& assigns of the said five pounds and 
the said gown, petticoat and shift 
forever. As witness my mark to my name. 
THOMAS GRIMSHAW my mark.

MALEW: WE DO HEREBY ACKNOWLEDGE to have 
this day received at by and from the 
hands of SAMUEL MOORE of Castletown 
the several legacies bequeath unto us 
by ANN MOORE of Castletown as appears 
by her last will and testament dated 
the ninth day of Novr. 1760.  And we 
do also acknowledged to have received 
ten pounds which was bequeathed by the 
said ANNE MOORE unto OUR BROTHER THOMAS 
FARGHER who is since dead and to whom 
we are Administrators; and do therefore 
order that the said several legacy be 
cancelled as witness our names or 
marks this 19th November 1766.

ALL THE SUBSCRIBING PARTIES to the above 
discharge acknowledge the same to be 
their act and deed before me, Ro:Radcliffe.         

WE WHOSE NAMES ARE SUBSCRIBED being severally xxx 
legatees in the last will and testament of 
ANN FARGHER WIFE OF SAMUEL MOORE bearing date 
10 February 1761, do hereby acknowledge to have 
received from Mrs. ANNE MOORE Executrix of 
the last will and testament of SAMUEL MOORE 
deceased, our several dividends of twenty pounds 
as devised in said will viz, one pound eight 
shillings & six pence each, with one shilling 
over in the hole being fourteen in number:

HIS BROTHER HUGH; WM. KNEEN his mark; 
JOHN TEAR his mark; THOS. GREMSHAW his mark;

At KK Arbory Febry 19, 1779: 
The above parties acknowledged the above received 
in full for their respective Dividends of the 
above mentioned twenty pounds 
before me, Joh:Moore
