In the name of God Amen.
I Mary Stowell als Geneste wife unto John Stowell of Douglas shopkeeper duly
recalling to mind the uncertainty of this transitory life and now
being in sound mind and memory I declare as follows to be my last will
and testament.
First I commit my soul to Almighty God and my body to Christian burial.
Secondly I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Esther Stowell one hundred
pounds  to be paid unto her by my hereafter named executor when she arrives
at the age of twenty one years provided I dye without any other issue, but,
if it should please the Almighty to bless me with
another child before my death or more children than one I then leave and
bequeath unto all and each of my children the sum of fifty pounds each to be
paid them as above reducing the above said hundred pounds to my daughter
aforesaid unto fifty pounds also.
And if so be my said children dies before they arrive to the age above
said of twenty one years I than leave and bequeath unto my sister Cath
Geneste the sum of fifty pounds to be paid her immediately after my said
child's or children's decease by my said executor also all my wearing
apparel provided I dye without a daughter and not otherwise and further more
if it be the Almighty's will that I have a surviving son before my
death I leave unto him the one half of the dwelling house wherein we
now live to be by him enjoyed after my said husband's decease and not before
but should he dye before my said husband my will is that the said half of
our dwelling house shall return unto my said husband to dispose
of the  same as he thinks fit.
Thirdly I leave unto each of my three brotheršs boys Lewis, John, and
Danl Geneste one guinea each.
Lastly I appoint and nominate my aforesaid husband John Stowell to be
my whole and sole executor of all the rest of my goods moveable and
immoveable of what kind or nature soever as also the rearing education and
tuition of said child or children and this I declare to be my last will
and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my subscription
this eleventh day of May 1762.         Mary Stowell

At a Chapter Court holden by Adjournment at Knockdoo in the parish of
KK Braddan June 14 1762.  The executor is sworn in court in form of law and
has the tuition of the children namely John and Esther their goods committed
unto him pursuant to the will and has given pledges for
payment of debts and legacies namely Gilbert Kaighin and William
Callow (one of the witnesses) both of Douglas.
Lewis Geneste Junior uncle to the children by the mother's side is sworn
supervisor in form of law.
