31b       Ramsey
The last will and testament of MARY MUIRE 
OTHERWISE CURGHEY who departed this life 
the 20th February 1763, and which she declared 
as such in the presence of the witnesses 
hereafter named, about eighteen months 
before her decease.  
First, she commended her soul to God, 
and her body to a Christian burial.  
She then bequeathed to NANCY VEG SAM, 
vizt., ANN CHRISTIAN, the sum of five 
pounds Manks currency to put an keep 
her to school.  She moreover left and 
bequeathed a crown to all cravers who 
should pretend claim or right to break 
or disannul this her last will and testament.  
Lastly, she nominated, constituted 
and appointed her NIECE JONEY KERRUISH, 
sole and whole Executrix of all the 
rest of her goods & effects, moveable 
and immoveable or of what kind or 
denomination soever.

AT A CONSISTORY COURT HOLDEN 
at KK Michael March 18, 1763: 
WILLIAM RIGG HUSBAND OF JONEY KERRUISH 
the Executrix named is sworn well and 
truly to execute the last will and 
testament of MARY MUIRE the Testatrix, 
and hath given pledges for payment 
of debts and legacies according to 
Law namely JOHN CALLISTER & JOHN CROSBY 
both of Ramsey.            

23RD AUGUST 1763: CAPT GEORGE MURRAY 
in behalf of Mr. DAVID FORBES enters 
a claim against the Executrix of MARY 
MUIR for the sum of 44 pounds 7 
shilling 1/2 pence British.  

DITTO DIE: MR. JOHN DURIE enters a 
claim against the Executrix of MARY MUIR 
for the sum of 45 pounds 15 shilling 1 1/2 pence British.     

4TH NOVEMBER 1763
CAPT. GEORGE MURRAY in behalf of Mr. 
DAVID FORBES enters a claim against 
the Executrix of MARY MUIR for the 
sum of 15 shillings 1 pence      

25TH NOVEMBER 1763
CAPT. GEORGE MURRAY in behalf of 
DAVID FORBES enters against ditto for 40 pounds British.     

25TH NOVEMBER 1763
CAPT. MATTHIAS CHRISTIAN enters against the Executrixof ditto for the sum of 10 pounds British.     
 
25TH NOVEMBER 1763
THE REVD JOHN CRELLIN Chaplain & MESS. EDWARD ALLEN & 
WILLIAM CHRISTIAN Wardens of Ramsey enter against the 
Executrix of ditto for 10 shillings 6 pence British.     

AT BALLAUGH NOVEMBER 25, 1763
JOHN LEWHELLIN have deposed that MARY MUIR late 
deceased promised and engaged to contribute and 
pay the sum of twelve shillings and three pence 
towards building the school house of Ramsey; 
ordered that the same be discharged by 
WILLIAM RIGG HUSBAND OF JONEY KERRUISH Executrix 
of said MARY MUIR sub poena Juris with all fees.         

TO THE REVD. MATTHIAS CURGHEY 
ONE OTHE VICAR GENERAL of this Isle, 
The humble petition of WILLIAM RIGG 
of the Town of Ramsey, 
Sheweth
That MARY MUIR OTHERWISE CURGHEY 
of the said Town having departed 
this life on or about the 20th 
February last who previous to her 
death & when of sound and disposing 
mind memory and understanding 
made published and declared her 
last will and testament nuncupatively 
in a legal manner before and in 
the presence and hearing of two 
credible and faithworthy witnesses, 
where testimony as such has 
been perpetual before the Revd. 
Vicar General Radcliffe, as 
by said Will may appear; 
That Petitioner being unacquainted 
with the forms of Law withing 
this Isle and his wife being 
appointed Executrix of said 
will, did not charge the next 
of kin to the said deceased 
before the Court upon said 
day for which reason as also 
as the said will belongs to 
the Archdeacon's Registry and 
that your Reverence was not 
there his Reverence 
Mr. Radcliffe declined 
granting probate thereto; 
And whereas there are effects 
of a considerable value in 
certain persons hands in 
North Britain which are 
daily embezzled and made 
away with, whereby Petitioner 
will and already has been a 
great sufferer, though there 
is not nor can there be the 
least objection offered to 
or made against the validity 
of said will; Petitioner 
therefore humbly prays your 
Reverence would be pleased 
to appoint a short day for 
hearing this petition and grantingprobate of said will with 
authority Charge all the next 
of kin to the deceased within 
this Isle to appear on such 
hearing that to Petitioner 
may be no longer a sufferer 
by delay herein, and Petitioner 
as bound shall pray &c.     

AT BALLAUGH MARCH 14TH 1763
ON CONSIDERATION of the above Petition, 
the Petitioner has xxx to charge the 
next of kin to the deceased MARY MUIR 
to appear before xxx at KK Michael on 
Friday next the 18th Instant. Whereof 
due notice to be given. Matthias Curghey.      

BY VIRTUE OF THE REVD VICAR GENERAL CURGHEY'S 
reference granted on the petition of WILLIAM RIGG, 
I lawfully charged ANN KERRUISH OTHERWISE 
CURGHEY (WIDOW) and JANE CHRISTIAN OTHERWISE 
CURGHEY (WIDOW) to appear before you Reverence 
at KK Michael on Friday next by ten o'clock in 
the forenoon And served them with said petition 
and reference thereon, And all this at the 
suit of WILLIAM RIGG, this I aver 15th March 1763.

REVD. VICAR GENERAL CURGHEY by virtue 
of your token I lawfully charged JOHN CALLISTER 
& JOHN CROSBY to appear before your 
Reverence at KK Michael on Friday next by 
ten o'clock in the forenoon to answer the 
suit of WILLIAM RIGG this I aver the 17th March 1763.

TO THE REVD. THE OFFERS OF THE ECCLESIASTICAL 
COURT of this Isle, 
We ANN KERRUISH OTHERWISE CURGHEY & 
JANE CHRISTIAN OTHERWISE CURGHEY only 
SISTERS and next of kin of the within 
named MARY MUIR OTHERWISE CURGHEY, being 
well satisfied and convinced of the legality 
of the last will and testament of the 
said MARY MUIR as also of her intention 
and mind to bequeath and devise her effects 
in the manner in said Will mentioned and 
set forth, do hereby relinquish all 
pretensions of the goods chattels and 
effects of the said MARY MUIR, and desire 
and request that the said will may be 
proved, and established and that the 
executrix therein named may be sworn 
according to Law. Witness our hands 
this 17th March 1763.
