In the name of God Amen.
I Lewis Geneste of the town of Douglas, Merchant, with the full and free
consent and -------- of my dear and loving wife, Hester Geneste which
is testified by her being a party hereto being both feeble infirm and in a
bad state of health and to prevent trouble that may hereinafter arise in our
family do make this our last will and testament jointly.
First we commit our souls to God Almighty who gave them and our
corpse to be interred in a Christian manner at the discretion of the
survivor or longest liver of us, whom we appoint to be executrix or
executor for the  other, and as for what worldly estate real and personal
wherewith God hath blessed us , we give leave and bequeath the same as
followeth and first we give leave and bequeath and declare the same to
be our last will and testament, that the survivor of us shall have whole
use occupy possess and enjoy all our estate real and personal - houses,
lands, gardens, goods, chattels, and furniture of every sort and kind
during such survivors life time, without any limitation or use
whatsoever with all our shares of shipping herein after particularly
mentioned and after the death of the survivor or longest liver of us  we
give leave and bequeath all our lands houses gardens and concerns in Douglas
to our eldest son heir at law Lewis Geneste and to his heirs lawfully
begotten forever still subject and liable to the payment of the
sum of two hundred pounds British money to our daughter Catherine Norman
alias Geneste now the wife of Jonathan Norman, gentleman,
which sum we order and will may be paid by our said  eldest son Lewis
Geneste within two years after he becomes  possessed of the hereby devised
concerns and premises to the said Jonathan and Catherine
Norman which sum when so paid shall be vested in trusts to be named by the
survivor of us in our life time to preserve the same for the support and
maintenance of the said Catherine Norman and her issues and our
will is and so hereby declared that our said son Lewis Geneste shall pay
his sister lawfully yearly interest for the sum of two hundred pounds
British for all such time as he will detain the same in his hands after
the time hereby appointed for the payment thereof we give leave and bequeath
and our will is, and it is so hereby declared, that in case our
son Lewis Geneste died without issue lawfully begotten that then and
when it shall so happen the premises hereby devised to him shall
descend to our good and dutyfull daughter Catherine Norman and her heirs and
assigns forever, any thing here in contained to the contrary thereof
in ways nothwithstanding we give leave and bequeath to the survivor of
us all our goods chattels and moveable effects plate jewelry ready
money and assets whatsoever to be disposed of as such survivor shall at the
time hereafter think proper, we give leave and bequeath to the survivor of
us, all our share or shares of the good ships or vessels called the Gra---
stock, the Mary Gould and the Brother, all three belonging to working in the
county of Cumberland and chiefly employed in the coal
trade and full power and lawful authority hereby for such survivor to
dispose such shares of the said ships, as such survivor may think proper at
the time hereafter to our said daughter Catherine Norman and her husband and
to no other person whatsoever, we leave six pence legacy to each person else
who can lawfully claim  the same we declare null void
all other  former will or wills by us  or either of us heretofore  made and
this only to be and remain our last will and testament, and lastly we
jointly nominate constitute and appoint the survivor or longest liver of us
whole and sole executor or executrix for the other and of this our last
will and testament as aforesaid.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seal this fourteenth
day of June  in the years of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty
nine.

At a Chapter Court holden at Douglas Oct 23rd 1769.
Lewis Geneste one of the testators having departed this life Hester Geneste
is sworn executrix in court in form of law and has given pledges for payment
of debts and legacies namely Nicholas Christian and Thomas McNaughton the
sworn witnesses.
