Whereas I Paul Clague of the parish of KK Christ Lezayre
and Alice Clague otherwise Cowley my wife are both now
stricken in years and in a declining condition and
considering the uncertainty of this tranistory life and
to avoid all trouble and strife that might happen in
case either of us should die without a settlement of our
goods and effects having been first made.
Therefore be it known unto all Christian People
by these presents that I Paul Clague aforementioned and
Alice my wife aforesaid for and in consideration of the
natural love and matrimonial affection which we
have and do bear the one to the other have settled and
estated, and by these presents do for ever absoulutely
settle and estate all and singular our wordly goods
chattles and effects of what kind nature or denomination
so ever which we now have or hereafter shall of may have
upon the survivor or longer liver of us both to be
quietly and peaceably held, possessed and enjoyed by the
survivor without any trouble disturbance or vexation
from any person whatsover and to use and dispose of the
same at pleasure and discretion to whosoever shall best
deserve it, Excluding each and every one of our children
as well sons and daughters with six pence a piece which
the survivor of us is to pay to them respectively if they
or either or any of them shall or will demand the same.
And for the true and faithfull performance and due
observance hereof we bind ourselves the either to the
other and our Execrs Admrs and assigns in the penalty
of twenty pounds sterling in the nature of all other Fines
within this Isle. In witness whereof we have caused this
Deed to be written and our names and marks to be here=
=unto sett and subscribed this 11th day of April 1776.

The said Paul Clague and Alice Clague alias Cowley
acknowledged the beforewritten Deed of Settlement
and agreement to be their voluntary & mutual
act and deed.

At a Chapter Court holden at Lezayre the
10th day of June 1788
Alice Clague one of the Parties named in the
beforegoing Deed of Settlement having departed
this life, the same is accepted as and for her
last Will and Testament and Paul Clague
the survivor is sworn Execr in Court in form
of Law & hath given pledges for the payment
od debts namely John Corlett and Daniel
Cowle both of the parish of Lezayre
