In the name of God amen. I Thomas Shimmin of Castletown, 
mariner, being in perfect health of body and of perfect 
mind and memory, thanks be given to God for it, calling 
unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it 
is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain 
this my last will and testament. 
First, I give and commend my soul unto God and my body 
to Christian burial at the discretion of my Executrix 
hereafter named. 
Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife 
Catherine Shimmin als Killey whom I do hereby constitute 
ordain & appoint the whole and sole Executrix of this my 
last will and testament all my worldly effects of what 
kind or nature soever whether lands messuages, tenements, 
household goods, chattels, clothes or any other matter 
that now is or hereafter may be possessed occupied or 
enjoyed by me during my natural life or at the time of 
my disease to be possessed occupied and enjoyed by her 
my said Executrix forever. And I do hereby utterly disallow, 
revoke and disannul all and every other former testaments, 
wills, legacies, bequests and Executors by me in any wise 
before named willed and bequeathed, debarring all my 
relations that may lay claim with six pence legacy and 
ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last 
will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto 
set my hand and seal this 27th day of November in the year 
of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine.

At a Chapter Court holden at 
Castletown on the 15th day of June 1792
Catharine Shimin als Killey xxx the Testator’s widow, and 
the Executrix and residuary legatee named in the before 
going will having had xx child xx been xxxx by her said 
husband at the time he made published and declared and 
executed his said will, but having since and previous to 
his decease xxx him a child named Ann Shimin and the said 
Testator having departed this life without leaving six pence 
legacy or the value thereof to, or making any provision 
whatever for the said child; the Court upon consideration 
thereof do decree the said Ann Shimmin co-executrix with 
the said Executrix and the said Ann being under age her 
said Mother is sworn her guardian and supervisor, and to 
exhibit unto the Registry of this Court a full, true and 
perfect Inventory of all the goods, rights, credits, 
chattels and effects of the said Testator and to pay all 
his just debts so far forth as his goods and effects will 
stand and the Law bind her, and to these ends she hath 
given pledges in form of Law, namely Thomas Holmes and 
Thomas Vaisey both of Castletown. 
John Shimin grandfather of the said Anne Shimin by her 
Father’s side, is sworn her guardian and supervisor
