The Humble Petition of Daniel Lace
Daniel Corlett & Daniel Tear of the
Parish of Andreas
Sheweth
That John Lawson of the parish of Andreas
aforesd. Who in the time of the Herring fishing
last season fell overboard of a Boat and was
thereby drowned at the time of said Accident was
Considerably Indebted unto your petrs
That no person has Administered for the Goods
and Effects the sd. John Lawson whereby your
petrs might enter their Claims to recover their
just demands against the Estate of the same
Which Constrains your petrs to apply to your
Reverence for relief in the premises.
Your petrs therefore pray
that your Reverence would be
pleased to take this matter to your
consideration & grant your
Authority to charge Jane Lawson
the Relic & Widow of the sd John
Lawson as also the next of
kin before your Reverence some
short day and order that some
of them or your petrs may
Administer for the same or each
other relief in the premisies as
to your Reverence will seem
meet & they will pray etc.
Ordered that the matters of this petition to come on
be heard at a Court to be holden at KK Michael on
Saturday the 2nd day of March whereof all proper
parties and persons to have due notice

At a Court holden at KK Michael on the 2nd day
of March 1799
John Lawson of the parish of KK Andreas having
perished by sea in or about the month of July last past
intestate and his children being underage and his
Widow and relict having declined to sue out Letters
of Administration of his Effects, the court hath upon
the Petition of Daniel Lace and others an alleged
principal Creditor of the Deceased, for the preservation
of the rights of Creditor, and of all others interested in
his Estate and Effects committed the Administration of
all and singular th4e Goods, Rights, Credits, Chattels
and Effects of the said John Lawson to him the said
Daniel Lace in Trust for the benefit of all persons
interested therein and he is thereupon sworn well and
truly to admiinster the same, to return a full true and
perfect Inventory thereof to the Registry of this Court
to sell the same by public auction to the best advantage
to exhibit into the said Registry true Accounts Sale of
the said effects, to pay all the just debts of the said
Decedent so far forth as his Goods and Effect will extend
and the Law shall bind, and to be accountable for his
said Administration when thereunto lawfully
required. To which ends he hath given pledges in
form of Law namely Daniel Corlett and Daniel
Tear both of the parish of KK Anndreas, Patrick
Kneale of Andreas the uncle and William Callow of Kk
Maughold the Cousin of John, Ann and Esther Lawson
children of the deceased are swon their Guardians and
Supervisors.

I do hereby certify that pursuant to an Order of the
Revd. Vicar Genrl Crellin granted on the petition
of Danl Lace, Danl Corlet & Danl Tear I charged
and served Jane & Bahee Lawson, Patrick Kneal
and Alice his wife to appear before his Revce
at a Court to be holden at KK Michael on saturday
next by ten o'clock in the forenoon and also to
answer the suit of the above Danl. Lace Danl.
Corlet & Danl. Tear this I certify as witness my
name and subscription this the 25th of Febry 1799

This is to certify that by virtue of the Revd. Vicar General
Crellins order on
the petition of Danl Lace Danl Corlett & Danl Teare of Andreas I
have summoned Wm John & Judy Callow all of Maughold to attend
before his Reverence at the Court to be holden at Kirk Michael
on Saturday next to answer the suit of the petrs This I aver as
witness my name this 25th day of Febry 1799

John Lawson Estate, Petition, May 1800
To the Reverend Evan Christian and
John Crellin Vicars Genl of this Isle,
The humble Petition of Daniel Lace of the
Parish of KK Andreas Administrator in
Trust of the Estate of John Lawson of the said paris
late decd
Sheweth
That the said John Lawson sometime ago
departed this life intestate and indebted to
sundry Person to a Considerable Amount who
have accordingl entered and proved their Clims and
have obtained orders or judgemnts and are now
endeavouring to inforce paymens of the same against
your Petioner.
That the Amount of the said Claims so
proved far exceeds the Amount of the Accounts
Sale of the said Decedents Estate.
That your Petitioner begs leave further to
state that there is a Debt of Four pounds and
four shillings british due to the sd Estate from John
Henry of KK Lonan, who was summoned before
your Revcs sometime ago for the same, and your
Reverences granted judgement agst him for the said sum
but the sd judgement having been only a few days
ago recorded, prevented your Petr from getting a
copy ............. whereby your Petitioner has
not be hitherto able to perfect and return the
accts Sale of the said Estate to the registry
Wherefore
Your Petitioner humbly prays your
Reverence would be pleased to suspend
the several orders or judgements against him in the
Capacity aforesaid, until the said sum of
four pounds and four shillings British
shall be recovered, and that afterwards a
Distribution of the said Estate may be ordered
to be made amongst the said Claimants
thereof. And your Petitioner shall
pray.
Ordered that the beforegoing
Petition do come on to be heard at a Consistory
Court to be holde at this place on the last Thursday
in the month of may next and that inthe mean
time the said order or judgement be stayed and
suspended whereof all proper Parties & Persons
to have due notice.
Given at KK Michael 28th march 1800

Continued to a Consistory Court to be holden
on Thursday next in this Parish.

John Lawson, Judgement, 1800
At a Conistory Court holden in the
Parish of KK Michael on the 31st
Day of July 1800.
Upon hearing the beforegoing Petition in
the Presence of the Petitions and some of the principal
Claimants against the Estate of the said John Lawson
decd and upon reading the Inventory Appraisment
and Accounts sale of the said Estate and .........
extracted an Account of the Expenses of the Administration
of the said Estate, and likewise an Extract of the Claims
legally entered and proved against the said Estate and
upon consideration had thereof as also of what was
otherwise pleadded against and alledged by and on
behalf of the said Parties respectively, it appears to
this Court that the Estate and Afects of the said
John Lawson are not sufficient for the full Payment
and satisfaction of the debts substantiated against
the same, and it is therefore herby ordered and decreed
that the Episcopal Register or his Deputy do
forthwith deduct from the amount of the said Estate
Funeral Expense, the Bills of Court allowed for this Admon
of the said Estate, all other Debts that have a Priority of
Payment out of the said Estate. afterward ascertain
pari passu the amportive Dividend of the common
Creditors of the said Estate, and the Petitioner do
then paye the Dividend so asertained
sub paena juris with all force

disobey'd to apply for a Constable.

Radcliff, Jane Radcliffe, Thos Stephen, Danl Christian, John
Christian, Danl Corlett, John Cleator, Averick Tear, Patrick
Farragher, Danl Tear & James Tear of Andreas Defts
to appr before your Revdat a Consistory
Court to be holden at KK Michael on Thursday next
by ten oclock in the forenoon to answer the suit of
sd petr Danl Lace this I aver this the 28th July 1800
