In the name of God, amen. I Miles Clucas of Jurby 
being in perfect mind and memory do make this my 
last will and testament in the manner following. 
First, I recommend my soul to my Great Creator and 
committing my body to the grave. 
Item, I leave and bequeath unto my brother Thomas 
Clucas twenty shillings. 
Item, I will and leave to my sister Anne Cleater 
otherwise Clucas forty shillings. 
Item, I will and leave to my sister Catharine Quay 
otherwise Clucas ten shillings. 
Item, I will and leave to my sister Mary Cowle 
otherwise Clucas ten shillings. 
And lastly, I constitute ordain and appoint my sister 
Margaret Clucas whole and sole Executrix of all the 
rest of my goods, chattels, credits and effects of 
what kind or denomination soever whereof I shall be 
possessed or entitled unto. 
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my mark to 
my name this 23rd day of Sept 1757.

At a Consistory Court holden in the Court-house in 
the Parish of Kirk Patrick on the twenty seventh 
day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand 
seven hundred and ninety nine: 
John Duggan one of the subscribing witnesses to 
the before written will being sworn on the Holy 
Evangelists deposed and made oath that he Miles 
Clucas the Testator when of sound and disposing mind, 
memory and understanding duly made and published 
and declared the same as and for his last will and 
testament in his presence and also in the presence 
of Thomas Quayle the other witness thereto and that 
he the deponent and also the said Thomas Quayle 
at the request of the Testator and in his 
presence and likewise in the presence of each other 
subscribed their names as witnesses to the said 
will and the said Thomas Quayle having lately 
departed this life, Richard Simonds gentleman 
being produced, sworn and examined as a witness 
at the instance and on the behalf of Thomas 
Clucas of the town of Douglas husband of Margaret 
Clucas the Executrix named in the said will and 
deposed and made oath that he had often seen 
the said Thomas Quayle write and was well 
acquainted with his character and handwriting 
and that the name Thomas Quayle subscribed to 
the said will as a witness would pass upon him 
for the proper handwriting of the said Thomas 
Quayle and that he verily believes it so to be, 
The said will is thereupon received as and for 
the last will and testament of the said Miles 
Clucas and Thomas Clucas husband of the Executrix 
therein named is sworn duly to fulfill the same 
by paying the Testator’s just debts and legacies 
so far forth as his goods and effects will 
extend and the Law bind him and to these ends 
he hath given pledges in form of Law, namely 
John Duggan the witness and James Clarke of 
Lezayre yeoman. 

To the Reverend Evan Christian and John Crellin 
Vicars General of the Diocese of Sodor and Mann &c., 
The humble petition of Thomas Clucas of the town 
of Douglas and Margaret his wife; 
Sheweth, 
that MIles Clucas of the said town departed this 
life some time in or about the month of February 
last having previous thereto duly made and published 
his last will and testament and appointed your 
petitioner Margaret Executrix thereof; 
That John Crain of Gubnaow in the parish of 
Lezayre, William Cleator senior and Margaret 
Cleater of Balnalaa in the parish of KK Andreas, 
and Charles Radcliff of the said parish of 
Andreas, Robert Clucas of Jurby, John Wade of 
Ballaugh, William Curphy of KK Braddan, Arthur 
Cowle of Douglas, and Thomas Currin of Rushen 
are the next of kin of the said Miles Clucas; 
And your petitioner humbly prays for a hearing 
of this petition. 
And that the said John Crain, William Cleater, 
Margaret Cleater, Charles Radcliffe, Robert 
Clucas, John Wade, William Curphy, Arthur Cowle 
and Thomas Currin may shew cause if any they 
can why the said will should not be proved and 
the execution thereof committed to your petitioner, 
and that the Executor of the said will may be 
committed to your petitioner accordingly. 
And your petitioner will pray &c, &c. 

Ordered that the xxx of this petition do come 
on to be heard at a Consistory Court to be holden 
at the house of Thomas Quine in the parish 
of KK Patrick on Thursday next whereof all proper 
parties and persons to have due notice; 
given the 22nd June 1799.
