Braddan
In the name of God Amen. The twenty seventh day of May one thousand eight
hundred and one.
I Patrick Cowley of Lagg ny Muckley or Cregg y Narvoo in the parish of KK
Braddan being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and
memory, thanks be given unto God; therefore calling unto mind the mortality
of my body and knowing that it is appointed of all men once to
die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say,
principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul into the hands
of God that gave it and for my body I recommend it to the earth, to be
buried in a Christian like and decent manner, at the direction of my
executor; not doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the
same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate
wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life. I give,
devise, and dispose of the same in the following manner and form:
First, I give and bequeath six pence each to every person claiming any
demand in this my last will and testament
2ndly, I give to the witnesses of this my last will and testament, two
shillings and six pence British, each of them (each day) they the said
witnesses will have any trouble concerning this my last will, to be paid
to them by my executor.
Lastly, I give to my well beloved daughter Margaret Cowley whom I
likewise make and ordain my only and sole executrix of this my last will
and testament of all my goods movable and immovable of what nature soever by
her freely to be possessed and enjoyed, and I do hereby utterly disallow,
revoke and disannul all and every former testaments, wills,
and legacies bequest and executors by me in any wise before this time
named, willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other
to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name and mark to my name
the day and year above written. Patrick Cowley my X mark
Signed, published, pronounced and declared by the said Patrick Cowley as his
last will and testament, in presence of us the subscribers viz:

the payment of debts and legacies namely the witnesses of the will.
