In the name of God Amen.
I Joseph Bacon, Captain in His Majesty's 5th Royal Garrison Battalion, now
of the town of Douglas, in the Isle of Man, duly recollecting the
uncertainty of this transitory life, being of sound mind, and memory but in
an infirm state of health, do publish and declare, as follows, to be my last
will and testament.
First I recommend my soul to God and my body to Christian burial. Secondly I
direct that after my decease (so soon as the law will permit) that all my
goods and chattels of whatever kind or nature soever, household furniture,
the Wherry called the Free Friends shall be sold by Public Auction.
Thirdly I direct that all my just debts shall be paid out of the proceeds of
the said sales.
Thirdly I give and devise Esther Crebbin spinster in grateful
acknowledgement for the great care, and attention she has taken of me, since
she lived in my house, the full and entire sum of two hundred pounds British
money, to be paid to her by my executor, as soon as he has sold off my
effects, or should the said sum of two hundred pounds British money not
remain in the hands of my executor after all my just debts are paid, I
direct my executor to pay the said Esther Crebbin whatever sum of money may
remain in his hands.
Fifthly Should any money remain in the possession of my executor, after the
above bequest is paid and all my just debts settled, I direct my executor to
pay to John Johnstone of the town of Douglas in the Isle of Man, Mariner,
the sum of twenty pounds British money as an acknowledgement for his care of
me during my illness
Lastly Whatever sum of money may still remain in the hands of my executor
after the above bequests are fully settled, I give and bequeath to my father
John Joseph Bacon of the town of Douglas, in the Isle of Man.
Lastly I nominate, constitute, and appoint Mr William Chambers of the town
of Douglas in the Isle of Man the whole and sole executor of this my last
will and testament, thereby debarring all persons, who may make claim to my
property, contrary to this my last will and testament, with six pence
legacy.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name, this fourth day of
May and in the year of our Lord one thousand, eight hundred, and four 1804.
