Articles of Marriage made and concluded
on by and between the Parties following viz. John
Cannell of Ballafale in the parish of KK Maughold
and Christian his wife in and on behalf of
their daughter Margaret Cannell on the one
Part and Robt.Looney of and in said
Parish in and on behalf of himself on
the other part are as followeth
1st It is agreed and Concluded in that the said
Robt. Looney and Margt. Cannell shall Enter into
that Holy Estate of Matrimoney within
the space of Fourteen day Ensuing the date
hereof God and the Holy Church Permitting
2dly That the said John Cannell and Christian
his wife do hereby firmly Covenant Promise
and agree to give as dowery Portion of Marriage
unto the said Robt. Looney the full and compleat
Sum of Twenty Pounds Currency of this Isle
with one well furnished feather Bed - Ten pounds
of the said Twenty Pounds to be paid within the
Space of One Year after the date hereof and
the other Ten pounds to be fully payed and
fulfilled as or after the death of the Longest Liver
of the Foresd John Cannell & Christian His
wife Which prior Sum of Ten Pounds we
the said John Cannell and Christian my
wife do promise to pay unto him the said
Robt. Looney out of a Bill of Mortgage
we have upon a certain parcell of the Estate
of Ballafale aforesaid from our deceased Son
& Heir Robt. Cannell And he the said Robt. Looney
do hereby agree and accept of the same Always
Provided that the Foresaid Bill of Mortgage be
Perfect and Legal
3dly And the aforesaid John Cannell and Christian his
wife do further Covenant and agree that if the said
Robt. Looney do at any time Prepose or thing
Prepose to come and Live along with the said John
Cannell & Christian his wife or Either of them
then and in that case the sd Robt. Looney is to enjoy
One undevided half of the produce of the Forementioned
Estate of Ballafale yearly and every year during
the natural life of the Longest Liver of the sd
John Cannell and Christian his, wife yielding and
paying yearly and every the one half of all Dues
Suits and Services yearly, Incumbent upon the
Same, and the said Robt. Looney do hereby engage
himself to provide and suply the Longest Liver
of the said John Cannell & Christian his wife in or
with sufficient and decent diet lodging and
Clothing during his or her natural Life She or he
in or at said Time giving up all his or her Rights
or Title of or to the said Estate unto the hands
and Possession of him the said Robt. Looney and
also all and every part of his or her Goods Effects
and Chattle --- And for the true and faithful
Performance of all and Singular Article & Agreements
within the beforegoing Contract each party do
bind and Oblige themselves in and under the penalty
and forfeitur of Sixty Pounds Currency to be
levied and payed according to the Law and
Custom within this Isle in Witness whereof
We have hereunto Sett our names and marks

John Cannell & Christian Cannell duly executed the
before written Articles of Marriage and Agreement
as their proper Act & deed in the Deponents

The beforewritten Contract of Marriage having
been proved and acknowledged before the High
Bailiff and now openly published in
Court and no objection offered against it The
same is therefore allowed of and Confirmed

The Beforegoing Contract of Marriage is
recd as the Last Will & Testament of Christian
Cannell and Robt.Looney is Sworn Exor in Court
for the payment of Debts
in form of Law & hath given Pledges ^namely John
Kermod & Wm. Quayle both of Maughold
