         Maughold
The humble petition of Ann Sprainger of the town of Ramsey widow of Edward
Sprainger late of the said town deceased.
Sheweth:  That the said Edward Sprainger duly made and published his
last will and testament wherein and whereby he nominated and appointed your
petitioner sole executrix of the same by the said will may more
fully appear.
That certain parts of the estate goods and effects which were of the estate
of the said Edward Sprainger are of a perishable nature or require the
immediate care management and attention of some proper person or persons.
That the witnesses to the said will are in the seafaring trade and
consequently are often obliged to be absent from the part of the island and
your petitioner conceives that it would be very convenient to the
said witnesses to attend before your Reverence on Saturday next to
prove the said will.
Wherefore your petitioner prays a speedy hearing of this petition and
that upon consideration of the matters before told your Reverence may
be pleased to allow that the said will may be established on Saturday
next and that the burden thereof be commend unto your petitioner or some
other proper persons or persons such other relief in the premises and to
your Reverence may seem meet.
And your petitioner will ever pray.
Ordered that this petitioner do come to be heard before me at a court to
be holden at the School House in Ramsey on Saturday next the 17th Sep
instant whereof all proper parties and witness are to have due notice. Given
at Kirk Maughold this 12 Sep 1808.

In the name of God Amen.
The last will and testament of Edward Sprainger of the town of Ramsey being
sick and weak in body but of perfect sound mind and memory when the same was
committed to writing thanks be to God Almighty for the same.
First I do commit my soul to the Almighty my creator and my body to be
buried in a Christian decent way of burial.
Item:  I do leave and bequeath to my beloved wife Anne Sprainger the one
half of my father's new dwelling house called Wm Spraingers House and
one quarter of the Old House adjoining the other house to the northward both
said houses situated in the town of Ramsey and one half of Wm Srainger's
garden vizt the whole of said concerns which belongs to me
and likewise my part of the boat "Amelia" with all her materials ready
for sea.
I do also leave and bequeath to my wife Anne Sprainger the whole of my
household furniture of every kind and denomination soever besides all money
due me from any person or persons that is to say any sum or sums of money
bills, bonds, or any lands which care be received or recovered
by the death of my brothers in law Wm Martin and Edmund  Martin vizt so long
as she keeps unmarried and in case she does that my said children
are to come in for my said part of the above mentioned effect or goods share
and share alike excepting the boat and house hold furniture which
is after her own disposal.
And I do also nominate, constitute, and appoint Thomas Allen Esq of
Ballavarren in the parish of Andreas and Wm Christian Junr of Ballanonengue
in the parish of KK Bride as guardians and supervisors
over my said children.
I do leave to any person that claims in my will six pence legacy.
And lastly I nominate, constitute, and appoint my wife Anne Sprainger
whole and sole executrix of my goods and effects moveable and immoveable of
what kind or denomination soever.  As witness my subscription this 12th day
of May 1808.  Edward Sprainger.

At an Eccl Court holden in the Court House of Ramsey the 17th Sep 1808. The
executrix sworn in court with pledges being Thos Killip and Thos Christian
both of Ramsey with Thomas Allen Esq and Wm Christian Junr
are sworn guardians and supervisors over the children.
