Malew
The humble petition of William Taggart of Malew eldest son and heir at
law of William Taggart of the said parish deceased.
Sheweth: That William Taggart your petrs said father sometime in or about
the 23rd of April 1811 departed this life but previous thereto duly
published his last will and testament in the presence of witnesses and
amongst other -------
He left devised and bequeathed unto your petr all his the said William
Taggart's houses lands and premises situate in the said parish called and
know by the name of Gibdale or some such name and all other his houses and
lands and nominated and appoint Catherine Taggart otherwise Watterson your
petrs mother whole and sole executrix of the said will.
The said will was within the time limited by law duly proved by the
witnesses present at the pronouncing and declaring thereof and your
petrs as is lawful in such cases duly attended at Castletown on the last
Chapter Court day held therein for the purpose of having the same recorded
whereupon Robert Kelly Esquire advocate for Henry Taggart your petrs eldest
brother and heir presumptive objected to the said will being received on
record on the ground of the insufficiency thereof and the said Henry Taggart
being then off the island and not able to state his
particular objections thereto and prayed for a further suspension of the
recording of the same.
This is attended with peculiar hardship to your petr the said will not
being recorded your petr not being able to make a proper disposition of
the said property.
Wherefore your petr prays a hearing of this petition and your Reverence will
be pleased to order the said will to be recorded or that the said
Henry Taggart may state what objections if any he has to the same and that
your Reverence will grant your petr such relief in the premises as
is just and reasonable and your petr will pray.

Ordered that this petition do come on to be heard at a court to be holden at
KK Patrick on Friday the 16 instant whereof all proper parties and persons
to have due notice.
Given at KK Patrick this 13 day of August 1811

This is affirmed to be the last will and testament of William Taggart of
Gibdale of the parish of Malew lately deceased being in sound mind and
memory at the making hereof.
First he committed his soul to Almighty God and his body to a Christian
burial.
Item He left and bequeathed unto his eldest son William Taggart all his
right of his houses and lands. He paying unto his four sisters namely Ann
Elinor Elizabeth and Jane Taggart twenty five pounds each but in case
the above said son departed this life a young man without issue and the said
premises to fall and descend unto his brother Henry Taggart then and in that
case the said Henry is to pay unto his aforesaid sisters forty pounds each
and ten pounds each unto his three brothers namely John, James, and Samuel
Taggart.
Item He left and bequeath unto his son James Taggart his watch.
Item He left and bequeath unto his son Samuel Taggart all his shaped
cloathes linen and woolen
Lastly he nominated constituted and appointed his loving wife Catherine
Taggart als Waterson whole and sole executrix or executor of all the
rest of his goods moveable and immovable be they what kind or nature so
depriving all person or persons of with six pence legacy each that can
claim any right to his aforesaid goods and effects to the contrary of this
will this 29th day of April 1811

John Maddrell husband of Ann Taggart, William Quiggin husband of Elinor
Taggart and Elizabeth Taggart and Jane Taggart appeared at the registry this
day and acknowledged to have received the legacies bequeathed to them in the
within will and have acquitted exonerated and discharged the executrix and
every other person of the same and every part thereof
