In the name of God Amen. I Catherine Cowley alias Quayle of Knockbane do
hereby make my last will and testament in the manner and form following.
FIRST--I commit my soul to God and my body to Christian burial. SECONDLY--I
leave and bequeath to my two daughters Mary and Isabella the sum of fifteen
pounds each as legacy and also I bequeath to them all my purchased houses
and lands situated in the parish of KK Michael whether quarterland, cottage,
or intack and in consideration for the same they are to pay to their sister
Elizabeth the sum of thirty pounds. --I bequeath to my aforesaid daughter
Isabella a furnished feather bed. --I leave a bequeath to my son Patrick
Cowley one quarter of the crop and my share of the cart and the gears
thereto belonging and also six sheep if there be so many to me belonging.
--I leave and bequeath to my three daughters all my shaped cloths and
apparel equally between them.
--LASTLY I nominate constitute ordain and appoint my beloved husband
David Cowley sole executor of all the rest of my goods whether moveable or
immoveable of what kind or nature soever. Cutting off and depriving all
claimers with one shilling legacy as witness my mark this 20th day of March
1810. Wittnesses: Philip Quiggen and John Caine
She left and bequeathed to her aforesaid daughter Elizabeth the sum of ten
pounds. Witnesses: Philip Quiggen and John Cain.
At a Chapter Court holden at KK Michael 27th Oct 1812:
The executor is sworn in court in form of law and hath given pledges for the
payment of debts and legacies namely the witnesses of the will.
We John Kaighin husband of Elizabeth one of the legatees in this will named,
Isabella Cowley and William Quayle husband of Mary another legatee herein
named, do hereby acknowledge to have received in full the respective
legacies bequeathed to us and in and by the last will and testament of
Catharine Cowley alias Quayle of Knockbane, and do exeonerate release acquit
and discharge David Cowley the executor therein named and all person and
persons his and their executors and administrators of the same and every
part thereof. Witness our names this eighth day of May 1816: John Kaighin
