27 Michael
I William Hadden of the parish of KK Michael considering the uncertainty
of this transitory life and being of late much subject to sudden fits of
illness which renders my life very precarious and in the time of such
maladies of the indisposition of my body causes great confusion and
unfitness in my mind for settling my worldly affairs in the manner I
would wish when my reason and health returns in order therefore to prevent
my departing this life without making a proper disposition of
my concerns in this life now that I am in a perfect state of mind and
body do hereby will devise and dispose of my worldly affairs in manner
following
And first I will to each of my children five shillings British.
I bequeath and leave grant and devise to my affectionate wife Elizabeth
Hadden all and singular the whole of my concerns of houses and lands
situated in KK Michael aforesaid with all and every the edifices
easements and appurtenances to the same belonging immediately my decease
together with all and every the rest residue and remainder of my goods
chattels credits and effects whatever and do hereby will and
desire that she shall pay strict attention to the education of my children
as well as their maintenance care and tuition. And do also further
appoint her their sole and whole guardian and supervisor. As also sole
and whole executrix and residuary legatee of this my last will and testament
and for the reasons by me suggested and recited in the preamble to this will
do firmly bind and oblige myself by those presents
not to sell or mortgage or other wise dispose of the hereby granted or
devised homes lands or goods without the consent of my before named wife in
any respect to answer any purpose whatever under the penalty of One thousand
pounds Sterling. In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name
this Seventeenth day of June One thousand eight hundred and eight.

At a Consistorial Court holden at KK Michael the 27th February 1812. The
executrix is sworn in court in form of law and also as guardian and
supervisor of the children under age and hath given pledges for the payment
of debts and legacies namely the witnesses of the will.
Probatum est. Danl Mylrea T. Stephens
2 Sep 1812 Michael Caley enters a claim against the estate of William
Hadden for the sum of 1 pound 12 shillings 6 pence British.
7 Dec 1812 Samuel Parks enters a claim against the estate of Wm
Hadden for the sum of 11 pounds 6 pence British.
To the Reverend Thomas Cubbon and Thomas Stephen Clerks Vicars General of
this isle. The humble petition of Elizth Hadden of the parish
of Kirk Michael.
Sheweth: That your petitioner's late husband William Hadden of the said
parish departed this life sometime in the month of January last past, but
previously to his decease duly made published and declared his last will
and testament in writing and appointed your petitioner sole executrix
and residuary legatee thereof and also guardian of his children as by the
said will may appear.
That the estate and effects which were of the said decedent require
immediate care and attention.
Wherefore your petitioner humbly prays a hearing of this petition and
your first Consistorial Court and that the said will may be accepted and
your petitioner sworn executrix thereof and guardian of the said children
agreeably to the said will. And your petitioner shall pray.
4 Feb 1812 Ordered that the before going petition do come on to be
heard at a Consistory court to holden in the Court House at KK Michael on
Thursday the 27th of Feb instant whereof all proper parties and
witnesses are to have due notice.
