To the Rev Evan Christian Vicar General
The humble petition of Jane Radcliffe of the parish of Malew
Sheweth
That your Petitioner and her Husband James Radcliffe deceased made this
joint will in the month of July 1806.
That the said will being improper worded and illegally expressed was for
that reason rejected and ordered to be amended by your Reverence.
That your Petitioner inadvertently neglected to exhibit the said will at the
last Chapter Court holden at Castletown, That she is now sensible of her error wishes to
have the Will received into Court and humbly requested.
That your Reverence would grant an order for that purpose as soon
as possible and she as in duty became ___ for your Reverence Happiness pray be.

Ordered that before going petition do come one to be heard at an Ecclas Court to
be holden in the Courthouse in the parish of Patrick on Friday the13th of this instant
month whereof all proper parties and persons to have notice.

The humble petition of Jane Radcliffe of the parish of Malew.
Sheweth
That your petitioner's husband James Radcliffe of the said parish departed
this life sometime on or about the month of July 1806 but previously to his decease duly
declared his last will and testament, and thereof appointed your petitioner sole exectrix as
by the said will may appear.
That your petitioner exhibited the said will at an Ecclal Court holden by the late Rev
Evan Christian Vicar General on or about the 13th day of Nov 1807, to receive probate
when the said will was fully proved and your petitioner was sworn Exec thereof in the
usual form.
That your petitioner expected the said will was duly registered but upon application at
this Episcopal Registry found that the said will was after the decease of the said Vicar
General transmitted to the Deputy Episcopal Registrar for safe custody without having
any probate extended thereon or consequences of this omission. Of the said Vicar
General should be exhibited again into the Ecclal Court in order to be proved and
established according to law.
Wherefore your petitioner

Ordered that the before going petition do come on to be heard at a court to be
holden at Marown on Friday next whereof all proper parties or persons are to have due

This is affirmed to be the last will and Testament of James and Jane Radcliffe of
the parish of Malew both of sound disproving mind memory and understanding at the
making thereof.
They committed their souls to the mercy of God and their bodies to Christian
burial.
They left and bequeath to their two sons Thomas and James Radcliffe all their
purchased lands; viz the house and croft called John Charles Croft adjoining the
Ballasalla River. The field called Robert Steles Croft adjoining the High Road on the
West to John Bridsons Land on the North and Cain Cromwels rent on the southeast also
another parcel of land and purchasings being a park of the Estate of BallaQuayle called
_________ Ny Carolley adjoining to the Black side Road on the Capt Thomas Harrisons
land on the north and south of his estate of Balla quayle on the West all which lands are
situated in the parish of Malew to be especially possessed by them after the Death of their
said parents and in like manner all the rest of their effects movable and immovable of
whatsoever nature to be enjoyed by them after the death of both their parents equally.
Lastly They nominated and appointed the longest liver or surviving party to be exec or
exectrix of all the remainder of their goods excluding all other persons who might
pretend any reason or right in the six pence legacy each. In testimony whereof we Ann
Shimmin and Christian Caine being called upon as witnesses this 25th July 1806 have
caused our name and marks to be subscribed.

Anne Shimmin and Christian Caine the witnesses having this day disposed upon the
Holy Evangelists that the before written will had been by them before duly attested at an
Ecclesiastical Court holden by the Rev Evan Christian, clerk, Vicar General deceased
pursuant to his order on a petiton to that effect dated the 5th November 1807 and Jane
Radcliffe the survivor having also disposed the she was on the occasion sworn Exec of
the said will accordingly Yet as this proceeding of Court was not in legal form recorded
the witnesses are again sworn and the said Jane Radcliffe is likewise sworn Exec in court
in form of law, she having consented to the full tenor of the said first will as far as it
legally _______ herself to all intents and purposes whatever and to these ends as well as
for the payment of debts and legacies she hath given pledges in form of law namely
Robert Caine and William Crellin both of the parish of Marown.
