                     To the Revd Thomas Cubbon, 
                     one of the Vicars General 
                     of this Isle.
                     The Humble petition of Margaret 
                     Howland, of the Parish of Andreas

Sheweth:            
        That your Petitioners Mother, also Margaret 
        Howland of said Parish, departed this life 
        on or about the 3rd day of January  Intestate 
        who previous to her demise made her last will 
        and testaments and amongst other things mentioned 
        herein appointed your petr. Executrix of the same.

        That there are several things that now  h…….  
        care and attention
        And some beasts that wants to be disposed off 
        for want of fodder which petr. Dare not do until 
        sworn in form of law which condition 
        petr. apply to your Reverence for relief.

                Your Petr. Therefore prays 
                that your Reverence may 
                grant etc.


Ordered that the matter of this petition do come on to be 
heard before me at the courthouse in Ramsey upon Friday 
the 24th Instant whereof all proper parties and witnesses
to have due notice given at Ramsey this 11th January 1812

The Last Will and Testament of Margaret Howland of the parish 
of Kk Andreas made this 31st day of March in this year of our 
Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine.  
This testatrix being of a sound mind and memory and understanding 
at the making and declaring of the same

She left and bequeathed to her son William Howland the money 
and cash that was then in his hands with the further sum of 
five shillings as Legacy.

She left and bequeathed to her son John Howland, the loome on 
which he was weaving and the sum of twenty shillings as a legacy.

She left and bequeathed to her daughter Isabela the wife of 
John Boyde of Ballaugh the sum of forty shillings as a legacy.

She left and bequeathed to her daughter Joney the wife of Thomas 
Caine of Ballaugh the sum of twenty shillings as a legacy.

She lefts and bequeathed to her grand child the daughter of the 
said Joney and Thomas Caine, the sum of twenty shillings as a legacy.

She left and bequeathed to any jurer or persons that would 
take upon them to break her will the sum of one shilling each.

Lastly she nominated and appointed her daughter Margaret Howland 
sole executrix of all the rest of her worldly goods and effects 
of what kind name or nature so ever.

At the Ecclesiastical Court held at Ramsey 7th Sept. 1812
Notwithstanding this will having been proved but by one witness 
yet notification being offered the Executrix is sworn in Court 
in form of Law and hath pledges for the payment of   
Debts and legacies namely Patrick Creer of Andreas and John 
Kee one of the witnesses of the will

Thomas Cain enters a claim against the estate of Margt. Howland 
decd. For the sum of  £11.11s(hillings) British and 
[craves law] the Land                            £22.00.00

April 27th 1812            
Thomas Cain for the sum of                       £ 2.02.05            

July 16th 1812              
John Howland enters a claim ag(ains)t. ditto for
The Jury?                                        £ 3.13.06

Nov 25th                      
Wm. Howland and Margt. His wife  agt. Ditto for  £ 1.07.00

 
Wherein Margaret Howland by her last will and testament 
bequeath unto her daughter Joney, the wife of  Thomas Cain 
the sum of twenty shillings, I, Thomas Cain, husband of 
the said Joney Cain do acknowledge to have recd. The said 
sum of twenty shillings for which amount there and ???? 
grants by Vicar Genl. Cubbon, from  Margaret Howland the 
Executrix of the last will and testament of Margt. Howland decd.  
And hereby do aquit ????  exonerates and discharges the 
sd. Margt. Howland, her Exectrx. Administrators and assigns 
of all and every part of sd. Legacy as witnesses my name 
the 22nd Aug. 1812

Acknowledge before  me
Henry   Madrell   /Regt.

Whereas Margaret Howland decd. By her last will and testament 
bequeath unto her grand daughter Mary Margaret Cain, a minor 
the sum of twenty shillings legacy.
I Thomas Cain, father of the said Mary Margt. And William Kewn 
brother in law of Thomas Cain aforesaid , the said Wm. Kewn 
having come forward in this occasion as surety for Thomas Cain 
for the said sum of twenty shillings the legacy bequeathed unto 
the said Mary Mart. Cain do acknowledge to have red. The said 
sum of twenty shillings from Mart. Howland, the Executrix of 
the last will and testament of Margt. Howland decd.  ???? and 
hereby acquit release exonerate and discharge  
the said Margt. Howland her Exetx. Admst. And assigns of all  
and every part of the said legacy as witnesses our names  
the 22nd August 1812           Thomas Cain
