The humble petition of Lewis Geneste and Wm Geneste of Douglas. Sheweth:
That Lewis Geneste your petrs father departed this life some time ago having
first duly made his last will and testament whereof he appointed Cath
Geneste your petrs mother executrix.
That the said Cath Geneste declines acting as executrix.
Wherefore your petrs pray that they may be sworn administrators of the said
Lewis Genestes estate with the said will annexed and they will
pray.

Whereas Lewis Geneste late of the town of Douglas deceased Merchant who
departed this life in or about the month of August one thousand
eight hundred and nineteen having made and published his last will and
testament bearing date the --- of ----- one thousand eight hundred and
------ of which he appointed Catherine Geneste his wife sole executrix
and whereas the said Cath Geneste having renounced the said
executorship administration with the said will annexed was granted to Lewis
Geneste (now the Revd Lewis Geneste) and William Geneste.
Now these presents witnesses that we whose names are hereunto subscribed
being children of the said Lewis Geneste and legatees under the said will
do hereby renounce and give up all claim which we or any of
us might or could have entered claimed or set up for any legacy or sum or
sums bequeathed to us in and by the said will.
In witness whereof we have hereunto subscribed our names the
twentieth day of April one thousand eight hundred and thirty three.

In the name of God Amen. I Lewis Geneste the elder of the town of
Douglas Merchant and Catherine Geneste otherwise Callow my wife
taking into consideration the uncertainty of this mortal life do make our
joint will and testament as follows:
First we commit our souls to God and our bodies to Christian burial.
Secondly we bequeath to our daughter Catherine (by a former marriage) five
guineas for a mourning ring she being entitled too an annuity of a hundred
pounds during her life from the death of her father by the will of her
sister the late Mrs Hester Delaprine.
Thirdly we leave to our son John fifty pounds British a year during his
life or else a suitable maintenance in every respect and the same to be
chargeable upon our houses lands goods chattels and effects.
Fourthly Whereas our sons Lewis and William are co-partners in trade
with their father and are entitled to their respective shares of an in the
stock of the said company Lewis to four hundred pounds British and William
to three hundred pounds British and are entitled to received one fifth part
each of ------ of the profits of the whole stock as settled annually now in
lieu of their respective shares of the said stock as
before mentioned. It is our will that they shall each of them have and
be entitled unto the sum of one thousand pounds British of and in the
said stock and one fifth part each of them of the profits to commence from
the first annual settlement which shall happen after the death of
the first of us who shall depart this life.
Fifthly We leave and bequeath to our other children namely Charles,
Maximilian, Francis, George, Jane, Emma, Elizabeth, and Ann four hundred
pounds British a piece to be paid to them as they respectively attain to
the age of twenty one years with interest or a maintenance in the mean time
and the same to be chargeable upon our houses lands goods chattels and
effects. And in case of the death of any of our said children before they
attain the age of twenty one years, the legacy or legacies of such,
to go to the survivors.
And it is our will that all the legacies and bequests in this our will are
to commence at the death of the first of us who shall depart this life.
And lastly we leave devise and bequeath unto the survivor of us And to
his or her heirs and assigns all our houses and lands and all the rest
residue and remainder of our goods chattels and effects what soever and
wheresoever and we appoint such survivor to be executor or executrix of this
our joint will and also to be guardian along with our sons Lewis and William
of our children under age.
In witness where of we have hereunto subscribed our names this 9th

The annexed we confirm to be our last will and testament and add that
we leave to our sister Cathrine Norman the sum of ten guineas for a mourning
ring and five guineas to the poor of this town as a codicil. January 14th
1814.

Lewis Geneste departed this life having appointed his wife Catherine the
executrix but she renounced executorship and transferred to her two
sons the burden of executorship Lewis Geneste junior and William
Geneste with pledges being the Rev Thomas Howard Clerk and Charles Geneste
Advocate both of Braddan.a
