19 Malew
In the name of God Amen.
I William Maddrell of Grenaby in the parish of Malew being of sound mind
and memory do ordain and appoint my last will and testament in manner
following:
First I commit my soul to the hands of the Almighty God and my body to a
Christian burial and as touching the worldly goods which God hath been
pleased to bless me with I dispose of them in manner following:
Item: I leave and bequeath unto my son John Maddrell my share of the
plow and harrows and winnowing machine and half of my wearing
apparel.
Item I leave and bequeath unto the children of the late William Maddrell
of Liverpool my son the sum of one pound British each.
Item I leave and bequeath unto my grandchildren the children of my son
Robert Maddrell the sum of two pounds British each to be paid when they come
to the age of twenty one years and the press, bed, and feather bed to Ann
Maddrell.
Item I leave and bequeath unto William Cain's three younger children the sum
of one pound British each.
Item I leave and bequeath unto John Maddrell my son's three youngest
sons one pound British equally between them.
Item I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Cain five shillings
British.
Item I leave and bequeath unto William Cain my son in law the sum of
one pound British.
Item I leave and bequeath unto my son Robert Maddrell one half of my wearing
apparel.
Item I leave and bequeath unto my granddaughter Jane Cooil the sum of five
pounds British and if she leaves the heifer which is now on in my possession
she to get five pounds British more.
Item I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Margaret Ready one boole of
barley
Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my son Robert Maddrell my
whole and sole executor of all the rest of my goods moveable and immoveable
of what kind or nature soever cutting off all other claimers
by affinity with six pence legacy a piece making void and null all former
wills which I have made and if any of the aforesaid legatees go to law or
any dispute for this my last will I but them out of my part in this my
last will.
In witness hereof I have hereunto subscribed my name or mark this 9th day of
January 1837.

William Maddrell of Granaby Malew the legacy due to me according to the
after said will viz the sum of seventeen shillings sterling.

aforesaid will viz the sum of seventeen shillings and 4 pence sterling as

Received from Catharine Maddrell executrix of the will of the last
Robert Maddrell Miller Granaby Malew the legacy due to me according to
the aforesaid will of William Maddrell the sum of six shillings and eight
pence.

I William Cooil of Kirk Bride do own and acknowledge to have received
from Robert Maddrell the executor of the will of William Maddrell the
sum of five pounds British left to my wife Jane Cooil as legacy in the
last will of the late William Maddrell bearing date the 9th day of
January 1837 and I do therefore release the said Robert Maddrell from
any further claim on account of the said legacy and do request the same will
so far as respects the legacy due me and wife as aforesaid to be cancelled
witness my name this the 15 Aug 1838

I William Gibbons Maddrell of liverpool son of the late Wm Maddrell of
Liverpool aforesaid do own and acknowledge to have received from Robt
Maddrell the executor of the late Wm Maddrell of Granaby Malew the sum of
one pound British left to me as legacy in the will of the said Wm
Maddrell bearing date the 9th day of Jan 1837 and I do therefore release the
said Robert Maddrell from any further claim on account of said
legacy and do request the said will to be cancelled as far as respects the
said legacy due to me as witness my hand this 13th day of June 1838.

At a Chapter Court holden at Castletown on the 7th day of June 1837. Robert
Maddrell the executor in the foregoing will named is sworn in
court in form of law well and truly to execute the last will and
testament of Wm Maddrell deceased to pay all his just debts and
legacies so far as the goods and effects of the decedent will extend and the
law bind him and to do all other acts and deed pertaining to the office
of executor according to law. And to these ends he has given pledges namely
William Shimmin and Edward Clark the witnesses of the will. Probatum est

William Cain husband of Elizabeth a legatee named in the foregoing will
of Wm Maddrell of Malew deceased appeared personally at the Archdeacon's
Registry and acknowledge to have received and been paid
the legacy of five shilling bequeath his said wife in and by the said will
and he the said Wm Cain at the same time acknowledged to have been
paid the legacy of one pound bequeathed him and by said will.
At the same time and place appeared Ann Cain and Elizabeth Cain two of the younger
children of said William Cain and acknowledged to have been
paid the legacy of one pound each bequeathed them severally in and by
said will. And they the said Wm Cain, Ann Cain, and Elizth Cain hereby
severally exonerate acquit and discharge Robert Maddrell executor his heirs
executors administrators and assigns of the said several legacies
or sums of money and of every part thereof. As witness their subscriptions
this 5th day of July 1849.
