Know all men by these presents that I John Bruce of the Ballamoar in the
parish of Bride by and with the consent of Margaret Bruce my wife divers
causes and valuable considerations we hereunto moving and those especially
for and in consideration of the confidence which we have and
do bear in and to dutiful son Robert because and for and in consideration of
the several considerations and conditions hereafter mentioned.
I the said John Bruce and Margt my wife do give up and sell unto our son
Robert the whole of our stock and crop and household furniture moveable and
immoveable of whatsoever nature together with our right and
interest unto the lease of said farm of Ballamoar.
And the said Robert hereby binds himself to pay unto the said John Bruce and
Margaret Bruce my wife the sum of five pounds British annually to be paid
quarterly and to provide us with the necessities of life during our
lives or the life of the survivor of us and to pay in hand the sum of two
pounds British two bolls of wheat and one boll of Barley and a mare
called "Fan" and provided that we the said said John Bruce and Margaret
my wife at any time should see fit to leave the said Robert and to live
elsewhere then and in that case I the said Margaret Bruce is to have a
cow and one half of the household furniture to be at my own disposal and the
profits of the --------- on the farm.
And the said Robert Bruce do engage to pay all our present debts and to
allow us two of the shoot pigs on the farm to be at our disposal.
And for the true and faithful performance of all and singular the before
written agreement the said parties bind and oblige the either to the
other in the penalty of two hundred pounds sterling to be herein and paid
according to law this the thirty first day of October one thousand eight
hundred and thirty eight 1838.

to and in favor of Robert Bruce  as witness my name this 23d Nov 1838.

At a Chapter court holden at Ramsey 23d Nov 1838.
John Bruce of the parish of KK Bride having departed this life on or about
the ninth instant and this court having received intelligence thereof hath
for the preservation of the rights of all persons concerned decreed Margaret
Bruce his widow with his sons Robert, William and James
Bruce co-administrators of all and singular the goods, rights, credits,
chattels and effects moveable and immoveable whatever of the said deceadent
And the said Robert Bruce is with consent of parties is sworn well and truly
to administer the same, to pay all the intestates just debts, so far forth
as the goods will extend and the law bind; and return into the Episcopal
Registry a full true and perfect inventory thereof and an accurate account
of all transactions touching the same when thereunto lawfully required.
Know all me, by these presents, that we, Thomas Kneale Merchant of the town
of Ramsey in the parish of Maughold and John Kaighin Yeoman of Ballafayle in
the parish of Bride are held and firmly bound to James Lord Bishop of Sodor
and Mann and his Successors, in the sum of three hundred pounds British; to
the Payment whereof well and truly to be made unto
him the said  Lord Bishop, and his successors, we bind Ourselves, our Heirs,
Executors, and Administrators, jointly and severally, by these Presents.
Witnesses our Subscription this 23d day of Nov 1838.
Whereas the Eccl Court of this land hath this day granted administration of
the estate and effects of John Bruce of Bride, decease, to Robert Bruce his
son in trust for himself his mother Margaret Bruce and his brothers Wm and
James Bruce the next of kin of deceased.
Now the condition of above Obligation is such, that if the said Robert
Bruce shall well and truly administer the Estate and effects of the said
John Bruce deceased and shall in all Things relating thereto conform to
the Laws of this Isle, the Orders of the Eccl Courts whereof, and the Oath
of Administration in trust which he hath this day taken, then the
foregoing Obligation to be void, other way to be and remain in full Force
and Virtue.
