The last will and Testament of David Ratcliff
In the name of God amen, I David Radcliffe now residing in the town of Douglas, Being weak
in body but in perfect mind and memory: Thanks be given unto God, calling unto mind the
mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once, to die, do make and
ordain this my last will and Testament that is say principally and first of all, I give and recommend
my soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it and my body I do recommend
to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian Burial at the discretion of Executor or Exectrix
nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same by the mighty power
of God; and to touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless on one this
life I give bequeath, devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.
First: I leave bequeath devise and dispose to my brother George Radcliffe my feather bed and
bedding and bedstead and my clock and all other effects moveable and likewise the five pounds
which I have to receive from the Club to my brother George Ratcliff for my funeral likewise I
appoint my brother George Ratcliff my whole executor of what I now have or shall be ever
entitled to and lastly I leave 2/6 to any person that will claim any thing in this my last will and
testament as witnesses my name and subscription whereof I have signed my hand and seal this
eleventh day of November in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and thirty
seven. 1837

At a Chapter Court holden in Douglas on the 22 day of May 1838 George Radcliffe the Exec
in the foregoing will named is sworn in Court in form of Law well and truly to execute the last
will and testament of David Radcliffe deceased to pay all his just debts legacies and funeral
expenses so far as the goods and effects of the deceased will extend and the Law bind him, and
to do all other acts and deeds pertaining to the office of Exec accordign to law and to these
ends he has given pledges namely Christopher Ripley and Daniel Christian both of the town of
Douglas.
