By Virtue of the Worshipful Vicar General Corlett’s Order 
I have Summoned Esther Crennilt, John, Philip, Thos, Robt, 
William, Margaret and Catharine Crennill to appear at an 
Ecclesiastical court to be holden in Ramsey on Friday Next 
this the 16th April 1838.

At Bride, 27 December 1836.   
The last will and Testament of John Crennell of Shellag 
in the Parish of KK.Bride, and of Esther Crennell his wife, 
made conjointly and together, John Crennell being sick and 
weak in Body but of sound and disposing mind and understanding 
at the making hereof ? Inn the first Place John Crennell 
and Esther Crennell his wife left willed and bequeathed to 
Philip Crennell, William Crennell, Thomas Crennell and Robert 
Crennell their sons Ten Pounds each, secondly they left willed 
and bequeathed to their two Daughters Catharine Crennell and 
Margaret Crennell fifty Pounds each all in british currency, 
and the said legacies not to be paid till after the Decease 
of the survivor of us John and Esther Crennell. 
Lastly they nominated constituted and appointed John Crennell 
their son to be their Executor and residuary Legatee[?], 
and to possess one half of the Lands goods and effects immediately 
after??of said[?] Lands, goods and effects after the deceasease 
of Esther Crennell his mother -----------

At an Eccl. Court held in Ramsey the 20th April 1838.
The Executor is sworn in Court well and truly to execute and 
fulfil the foregoing last Will and Testament of the Testator 
John Crennell deceased to pay all his just debts Legacies and 
funeral expenses so far forth as the Goods will extend and 
the law bind him and to return a true and faithful account of 
the Estate of the said Deceased and of his acts and proceedings 
in the Promises into the Episcopal Registry when thereunto 
lawfully required and to these ends [hath] given pledges who 
have entered into a Bond to that Effect   
in presence of the Court.

Know all Men, by these Presents, that We, Thomas Kelly of Shellag 
and Catharine Crennill of the same place in the Parish of Bride are 
held and firmly bound to Thomas A Corlett Vicar-General and his 
Successors, in the Sum of Fifty pounds British; to the Payment whereof 
well and truly to be made unto him the said Lord Bishop, and his 
Successors, we bind Ourselves, our Heirs, Executors, and Administrators, 
jointly and severally, by these Presents.
Witness our Subscriptions, this 20th Day of April 1838.


Whereas the Ecclesiastical Court of this Island hath this Day granted 
Probate of this Will of John Crennill, deceased, to John Crennill his son.
Now the condition of the above Obligation is such, that if the said John 
Crenill shall well and truly administer the Estate and Effects of the 
said Deceased John Crennill his late father and in all Things relating 
thereto conform to the Laws of this Isle, the Orders of the Ecclesiastical 
Courts thereof, and the Oath of Executor which he hath this Day taken, 
then the foregoing Obligation to be void, otherway to be and remain in 
full Force and Virtue.

Know all Men by these presents that I Thomas Crennell of the parish of Bride, 
son of the late John Crennell of Shellag, do own and acknowledge myself to 
have received and been fully paid and satisfied the amount of a Legacy of 
ten pounds bequeathed unto me by the last joint Will and Testament of my father 
and Mother the said John Crennell and Esther his wife dated the 27th  December 
1836 and recorded at the Episcopal Registry. Having so received the same at 
and from the hands of John Crennell viz[?] my brother the Executor named in 
the said last Will altho’ not payable till the decease of my said Mother and 
I do by these presents for myself my Executors and Administrators Release 
acquit and discharge the said Executor and the Estates real and personal of 
the said John Crennell my said father from all claim and demand in respect of 
such Legacy now & for ever and I request and direct that the same may be and 
stand cancelled on record.

the same to be his proper act and deed.

Charles Howland & John Chas Stephen.   Acknowledged at Ramsey May 9 1843.

Philip Crinnle, who signed, on 2nd June 1843 in presence of Andrew McMaster & 
John Chas. Stephen. Acknowledged at Ramsey March 8 1845.

William Crennell 10th June 1843 in presence of Philip Crinnell & John Chas Stephen.   
Acknowledged at Ramsey March 8 1845.

Robert Crennell 3rd June 1843 in presence of Robert Kewin & John Chas Stephen.   
Acknowledged at Ramsey March 8 1845.

Robert Quayle & Margaret Quayle otherwise Crennell my wife 20th April 1838 in 
presence of Chas Howland & John Chas Stephen.   Acknowledged 9th May 1843.
