18 Arbory
In the name of God Amen.
I John Shimmin of the parish of KK Arbory being weak of body but of a sound
and disposed mind and memory and I considering the uncertainty of this
mortal life do think proper to make this my last will and testament. First I
commend my soul to God and my body to Christian burial at the discretion of
my executor.
Item I leave and bequeath unto my son Robert the sum of five shillings
British.
Item I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Margaret Commish alias Shimmin
the sum of five shillings British.
I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Ester Christian alias Shimmin the sum
of five shillings British.
Item: I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Isabella Callow alias
Shimmin the sum of five shillings.
Item: I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Cathrine Shimmin the sum of five
shillings British.
Item I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Brew alias
Shimmin the sum of five shillings British.
Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my wife Jane Shimmin alias Cubbon
my whole and sole executor or executrix of all the rest of my goods moveable
and immoveable of what kind or denomination soever cutting off all other
claimers by affinity with two shillings and six
pence legacy a piece this 28th day of May 1828

At Chapter Court holden at Castletown on the 29th day of May 1839. Jane
Shimmin the executrix in the foregoing will named having renounced the
executorship by an instrument in writing in favour of Robert Shimmin
and Thos Costain of Arbory they the said Robert Shimmin and Thos
Costain are sworn executors in trust of the foregoing last will and
testament of John Shimmin deceased to pay all his just debts legacies
and funeral expenses so far forth as the goods and effects of the deceadent
will extend and the law bind them and to do all other acts and deeds
pertaining to the office of executors in trust according to said and to
these ends they have given pledges namely John Costain and Thos
Brew both of the parish of Arbory.
