                 Lezayre
In the name of God Amen.
I Henry Maddrell Clerk Vicar of the parish of Lezayre being advanced in
years and declining in bodily health but of sound and disposing mind memory
and understanding do make this my last will and testament in manner
following.
I commend my soul unto Almighty God and my body to Christian burial.
I leave devise and bequeath unto my nephew John Maddrell of the parish
of Arbory his heirs and assigns all and singular those lands and premises
situate in the parish of Lezayre called and commonly known by the name
of Curragh Illiam or some such name which I purchased from William
Kewley Lockman of Lezayre or Coroner of Ayre Sheading.  I also leave and
bequeath unto the said John Maddrell the sum of six hundred pounds
legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my nephew Robert Maddrell his heirs and
assigns all and singular that and those estate lands and premises situate
in the parish of Lezayre called and known by  the name of Balla Cottier
which I purchased from the late William Corlett deceased, William
Garrett and wife, Doctor Haines and wife and from Mrs Eleanor
Drinkwater late of the town of Liverpool herein and hereby including and
comprising the whole of the lands houses and premises both quarterland and
intack held under lease granted to me by John Halsall to have and to hold
the said estate lands and premises with the dwelling house and outbuildings
thereon erected and all appurtenances unto the same belonging on in anywise
appertaining unto the said Robert Maddrell his
heirs and assigns forever subject however to the and charged and chargeable
with an annuity or yearly sum of ten pounds unto my niece Elizabeth Maddrell
as hereinafter mentioned.
I leave devise and bequeath unto my niece Elizabeth  Maddrell who
resides with me her heirs and assigns all and singular those lands and
premises situate in the parish of Lezayre called Close Frissell or
Frissellšs Close or some such name which I purchased from John Kneen
and wife.  I also leave and bequeath unto the said Elizabeth Maddrell the
sum of one thousand pounds, my gig and harness, my watch, and appurtenances,
the whole of my plate, linens, china, and household furniture of every
description and an annuity or yearly sum of ten pounds which shall be paid
and payable to her during her natural lifetime by my nephew Robert Maddrell
his heirs and assigns out of the estate  of Balla Cottier  in the parish of
Lezayre
I leave and bequeath unto my niece Jane Maddrell the sum of six hundred
pounds legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my niece Elizabeth Gell the sum of six hundred
pounds legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my nephew Robert Gell the sum of six hundred
pounds legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my nephew William Gell five hundred and fifty
pounds legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my nephew Evan Gell the sum of five hundred pounds
legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my niece Margaret Clucas otherwise Gell wife
of John Clucas of Ballakilley in the parish of Rushen the sum of five
hundred pounds as legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my niece Mary Mylchreest otherwise Gell wife
of Thomas Mylchreest Junior of Ballagarraghyn in the parish of German
the sum of four hundred and fifty pounds legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my nephew William Moore of Julianstown
Ireland the sum of two hundred pounds as legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my grand nephew John Gill the sum of one hundred
pounds legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my grand nephew James Gell the sum of fifty pounds
legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my grand nephew Philip Gell brother of the before
named John and James Gell the sum of one hundred pounds legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto my nephew John Moore the sum of fifty pounds as
legacy.
I leave and bequeath unto the Vicar and Wardens of the parish of Lezayre the
sum of one hundred pounds to be laid out at interest  on good landed
security and the interest  paid yearly unto the poor of the said parish
forever.
I leave and bequeath unto the Vicar and Wardens of the parish of Arbory the
sum of twenty pounds to be laid out at  interest  on good landed security
and the interest paid yearly unto the poor of that parish forever. I leave
and bequeath unto the Chaplain and Wardens of St Paul's Chapel Ramsey the
sum of ten pounds to be laid out at  interest  and the interest paid yearly
unto the poor of the town of Ramsey forever.
I leave and bequeath unto my nephew Robert Maddrell and his heirs and
assigns as proprietor of the estate  of Balla Cottier and the Vicar of the
parish of Lezayre who may succeed me and his successors in that office the
sum of fifty pounds in trust to lay out the  same at interest  and pay over
the interest  unto the Master of the School kept at or near the Dhoor in the
parish of Lezayre forever.
I leave and bequeath unto my nephew Evan Gell of the Whitehouse in the
parish of Michael and his successors proprietors of the said estate of
the Whitehouse and the Vicar of Lezayre who may succeed me and his
successors in that office the sum of fifty pounds in trust to lay out the
same at interest  and pay over the interest unto a Master to be by them
approved of who shall keep school at Sulby in the parish of Lezayre.
I leave and bequeath my books unto my nephews and nieces John
Maddrell, William Gell, Mrs Clucas, Evan Gell and Elizabeth Maddrell
equally between them except those books hereinafter specifically bequeathed.
I leave and bequeath unto the Church Missionary Society ten pounds and unto
the Society for the Promotion of Christian Knowledge the like sum
of ten pounds.
I leave and bequeath an annuity or yearly sum of thirty shillings unto
Catharine Crow who formerly lived in my service to be paid to her during her
natural lifetime.
I leave and bequeath the sum of ten pounds to be distributed by my executors
and executrix amongst the aged, infirm, poor, and greatest objects of
charity in the parish of Lezayre.
I leave unto my nephew William Gell a book which his brother Capt Philip
Gell purchased in India and presented to me.
I leave and bequeath unto my nephew Evan Gell and niece Elizabeth
Maddrell "The Popular Encyclopedia".
Lastly I leave and bequeath unto my nephew Evan Gell of the Whitehouse and
my niece Elizabeth Maddrell all the rest residue and remainder of my goods
and rights, chattels, credits, and persona property of every description and
I nominate constitute and appoint them the said Evan
Gell and Elizabeth Maddrell joint executor and executrix of this my last
will. Hereby revoking all former will or wills by me at any time
heretofore made and declaring this to be my last will and testament .
In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this sixteenth
day of June one thousand eight hundred and forty two.

At a Special Eccl Court held in Ramsey the 8th Aug 1842.  Evan Gill and
Elizabeth Maddrell sworn with pledges being the witnesses of the will.

John Gell rec'd 100 pounds 7 Sep 1843.
John Maddrell of Arbory rec'd %pound600 20 Sep 1843.
Jane Maddrell rec'd £600 25 Jun 1844.
Elizabeth Gell rec'd £600 and at the same time Robert Gell rec'd £600
also Philip Gell rec'd £100 a grandnephew whom Robert had been sworn
guardian at the time appeared William Gell and he rec'd £550 
and also Elizabeth, Robert and William Gell rec'd £50 for mourning
clothes.

Thomas Mylchreest husband of Mary a legatee named in the foregoing
will of the Rev Henry Maddrell appeared at the Registry and
acknowledged to have rec'd and been paid the legacy of £450 British
and his wife's distributive share of £50 for mourning 5 Dec 1844
Evan Gell rec'd £10 for Church Missionary Society on the 5th Nov 1843.
Elizbeth Clucas rec'd £60  7 Feb 1844
Wm Moore of the  Kingdom of Ireland recd £200  8 Aug 1842.
Vicar and Wardens  of Arbory rec'd  £twenty 16 Nov 1843.
£3 17 shillings with interest  his wifešs share of her uncle the Revd
Henry Maddrell for purpose of mourning.

We the undersigned being joint executors of the will of the late Rev
Henry Maddrell having had this day a final settlement of accounts
relative to the estate of the deceased do hereby declare and acknowledge
that all accounts between us in our said capacity are this day settled
and we do exonerate and acquit the either the other and our respective
executors administrators and assigns from all further claim or demand
on account of or pertaining to the residue of the aforesaid estate.
Witness our subscription hereto this 8th day of Dec 1845.
