Whereas the Ecclesiastical Court of this Diocese has this Day 
granted probate of the will of Thos and Margt Kaighin late of 
Douglas, deceased to Thomas Kaighin AND WHEREAS William Kermode 
of - in the parish of German and John Kaighin of --- in the 
parish of German have agreed to become pledges to the said 
Thos Kaighin.  
Therefore, KNOW ALL MEN by these Presents that We, the said 
William Kermode and John Kaighin hereby bind and oblige ourselves 
and our Executors and Administrators, as Pledges to the said 
Thos Kaighen for the due and faithful Administration of the 
Goods and Effects of the said Deceased, according to Law.  
Witness our Subscriptions this 12th day of April 1844

          The humble Petition of Thomas Kaighin 
          of ... of German.
Sheweth
     That Thomas Kaighin late of Bigwell Street 
     in the Town of Douglas departed this life 
     on or about the sixth day of March instant 
     having first duly made and published his 
     last will and testament whereof he appointed 
     his wife Margaret Kaighin executrix.

     That the said Margaret Kaighin departed this 
     life on or about the thirteenth day of March 
     instant without having proved the said will 
     and having first duly made and published her 
     last will and testament whereof she appointed 
     your Petitioner Executor.

          Wherefore your petitioner 
          humbly prays a hearing hereof 
          and that your Reverence will 
          be pleased to grant probate 
          of the said two wills to your 
          Petitioner with ... other 
          relief as is ... and 
          Petitioner will pray ... 
          for Petitioner 

[Ordered] that this Petitioner do come or to be heard 
at a Court to be holden at Douglas on Friday the 12 of ... 
whereof all proper parties to have due notice.


Know all men by this Presents that I Thomas Kaighin of 
Bigwell Street in the Town of Douglas do make this my 
last will and testament in manner following 
In the name of God, Amen, I Thomas Kaighin being of 
sound mind and memory and understanding at the making 
of this my last will and testament in the following manner --
First, I commit my soul to the care of Almighty God and 
my body to Christian Burial
Secondly, I leave unto the poor of the Town of Douglas 
the sum of five shillings British.
Thirdly, I leave and bequeath to John Clague weaver my 
Aunt Margaret's son the sum of five shillings Brittish
Fourthly, I leave unto Every Lawful claimant the sum of 
one shilling British each.
Lastly, I leave and bequeath unto my lawful and beloved 
wife Margaret Kaighin alias Kaighin all my right and 
title to my Dwelling House which is situated in Bigwell 
Street, Douglas wherein we now live together with all its 
Appurtenances Easements and Liberties and whatever 
rights to the said house doth belong. With all the residue 
and remainder of my goods and effects be they of whatever 
kind or denomination. I also leave and appoint my beloved 
wife Margaret Kaighin afore said my whole and sole executrix 
of this my last will and testament this twenty seventh 
day of March One Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty Eight 1838

At a Court holden at Douglas this 12th of April 1844
The Testator having departed this life and Margaret Kaighin, 
the Executrix named in the foregoing will having also departed 
this life, Thomas Kaighen is sworn well and truly to execute 
the last will and testament of Thos Kaighin, deceased, the 
said Margaret Kaighin having made her last will and testament 
and appointed the said Thos Kaighin executor.
