 Malew 1845
The humble petition of Mary Ann Bridson widow of Philip Bridson of
Ballasalla deceased
Sheweth:
That the said Philip Bridson some short time since departed this life
having first duly made his will.
This is the last will and testament of Philip Bridson of Ballasalla in the
parish of Malew.
 He leaves all his landed property whatever to his son Philip his heirs
and assigns in case the said Philip should die under age without issue or
having such issue should die under age and without children then the
whole of his estate he leaves to his daughter Ann her heirs and assigns
if she should die without issue and if she have children and they die
under age and without issue then he leaves the whole of his estate to his
great nephew John Bridson son of his nephew Arthur Bridson his heirs
and assigns.  So as his son Philip lives he directs that his wife Mary Ann
should take her widow right in terms of the deed of sale in trust to Wm Duff
dated 8 Nov 1830 of Ballaquinney - William Dinwoody dated 23 Aug 1830 but in
case Philip should die without issue as aforesaid he charged and makes the
whole of his estate subject to and annuity and yearly sum of eighty pounds
sterling to his said wife Mary Ann for the term of her natural life.
In case his personal estate should not be sufficient to pay off his just
debts then he directs that his executrix or executor shall raise a sum of
money upon mortgage of all or any of his estates in order to make up
such deficiency.
He leaves to his daughter Ann a legacy of twenty pounds as a token of
affection and remembrance and  being already provided for.   He
nominates and appoints his said wife his executrix and residuary legatee and
William Duff of Douglas joint executor in trust to assist his wife in
administering to his estate.  He nominates and appoints his said wife and
the said William Duff guardians of his said son Philip Bridson and he
declares the foregoing paper to contain his last will and testament.
In witness whereof he has hereunto his name this 19th Jan 1841.

Mary Ann Bridson and Wm Duff sworn executrix and executor with
pledges being the witnesses.

Codicil
I Philip Bridson of Ballasalla in the parish of Malew do make and publish
this paper writing as a codicil to my last will and testament.  I leave
and bequeath to my wife Mary Ann all my household furniture, plate,
linen, and china for her own use and disposal also I leave to my said wife
one half of the dwelling house situate on Ballasalla aforesaid occupied
by me and one half of the two gardens in my occupation to hold unto my said
wife during the term of her natural life and so far as any deed or
will heretofore signed or executed by me might affect the devise hereby
I alter and vary the same by these presents but only to the extent herein
mentioned and I do hereby direct that this paper writing be taken as a
codicil to my will and equal force therewith.
In witness whereof  I have unto subscribed my name  this 22nd December one
thousand eight hundred and forty one.

Rec'd from Mrs Mary Ann Bridson executrix and Mr Wm Duff executor to the
will of the late Philip Bridson twenty pounds being the amount left
by him to his daughter Ann Esther Gelling.
